Anyone interested in a trip to Slade, KY (Natural Bridges SP, Boone NF) on 7/15? I'd like to get back there before it closes forever...

This up coming weekend!! I said I needed 2 weeks to get rims and tires!!! I need to know if we are going and Ill order them tomorrow and hopefully get them on by then!! Oh gosh, what to do!!

Yea, Im in.

You may want to post a link in the general forum. Many people do not check the midwest forum.

Edit: You need to change your sig. Your skinks are on!!

Edit#2: Would you want to camp saturday night or friday night? Thought that would be kinda fun.

Cant do august. Im going back to school the 17th so anytime before that is good. Im not sure how hard this engineering stuff is going to be for me so I want to keep my weekends open incase I need them to study. Ill order the tires+rims tomorrow and they should get here by the end of the week. Even if we dont go I still want them, Im tired of street tires.

I edited my last post a bit to late, but would you want to camp friday or saturday night if we get more people to go? Also, I put a thread on jeepkj.com to see if anyone wanted to go.

We'll likely just make it a day trip. Say, meet at noon at that Slade gas station. I need to go get a KY gazeteer so I can find the trail :)

I can't believe I want to smack, but I'm so looking forward to scratching the paint on the skinks...

im in for next saturday. we went a couple of weeks ago, but i wouldnt be able to remember the trails.

iff eddo doesnt go ( hopefully he does cuz he's an excellent trail boss ), i can bring the porta grill if we want to make dogs and such.

also, noon seems a little late if we're not going to camp. i know we started last time i went at 10 am and wheeled till like 3 or 4 and it didnt seem like it was that long of a ride...may want to think about pushing meet time up a bit... :?:

I was hoping you would go jason. The grill would be great! I dont know where you and eddo ate but there are tons of places around natural bridge to picnic. I may go down the night before and stay with some friends if they wanted to go so whatever time you all want to meet is great. We got there around 10:30 last time(I was late) and we went through 6 that night I believe, but we went to a few other trails.

Unfortunally, I won't be able to make this one. I have prior engagments. It should be a good time though. Need to post pictures and let me know if you find and other neat areas. Maybe we will make another run down there at the end of August.

I didnt think you would be able to make it since I already ask you if we could go then. Gonna be kinda sad leaving eddo behind.

Just found you link on JeepKJ, never looked at the midwest forums before. I may make it up, it's about a 5 hour drive from where I am. My sister lives in Lexington and I've been looking for an excuse to come up and visit her.

My Jeep is still pretty stock, using the tubular sidesteps now, but just bought Moose's rock rails. If he can meet me there with them that would save the cost of shipping. I'm putting Rusty's strut plates on this week, if the get here in time, but other than that I have no lift. I don't have any skids either, but I could get them this week from Jparts.

What do you guys think, how necessary is the lift and skids?

Lift is not necessary. However, if you are not lifted, then I would recommend skids. Also those side steps hang down kind of low so they are bound to get scraped up. I'd take them off before hitting the trail.

Moose was completely stock last time and did fine. But he did hit his skids a few times.

Thanks for the quick reply Eddo. Will Mopar skids and rock rails give me enough protection? I know the aftermarket ones are better, but I really can't justify putting that much money into them seeing how I only do light wheeling on the weekends.

I know, I've lead both runs down there. I'm going to miss it. I would so go if I didn't have home-a-roma thing I had to attend with my fiance this saturday morning. Just please be careful guys. Make sure you have tow straps and use common sence. Don't want anyone coming home with broken parts. Post pictures and a trail report.

The Mopar skids and rock rails will get you by just fine. Moose didn't even have his mopar rock rails on during the last run in slade and he was fine. But he did hit his skids a couple times. If you are stock, expect to take it slow, listen to your spotter and you will be fine.

I wouldn't go w/o skids not with this puppy half way through... Image

Also, I'm on travel all this week, so I may not be able to check the forums or call the ranger station to verify that the narroes is still open. can some else take the point on this?

Thanks

ps - I may be able to meet at 11 in Slade. Either way, I think we should eat lunch, then hit the trail. There wasn't too many picnic spots out there :)

I can call them moose to see if the narrows are open. Give me a number and Ill take care of that. I quit work about a week ago so I dont do anything during the week now.

VTNomad, if i were you, I would put the skids on but leave the rock rails off for this trip. Moose did fine without them but got really close to hitting in some spots. If he would of had the rails on they would of hit. Im not to sure how strong they are but it may bend them when you would of been fine without them. The front skid, tcase skid, and gas tank skid were all used with moose. He barely hit his gas tank skid and probably woulnt of hit the gas tank without it, but that tank isnt something to mess with. I would get them all if you can, the front and gas tank being of most importance. its easy to watch the middle but sometimes the back will fall off a rock and we cannot do anything about it.

We'll be safe eddo, Ill take tons of pics! You know how I am with that camera! :)

Aight, wow. She said the trail called the narrows that some 4wheelers and "jeep people" use has been closed. Shoot me now. I ask when they did it and she said last week or the week before that. I'm going to find the nearest cliff and jumping off of it.

I could drive up there and make sure moose if you need me to. Maybe that woman didnt know what she was talking about? And eddo, if you can chime in, do you know of any other trails around there I could check out and see if they are any good before we go? I just ordered tires and rims last night so I do not care a bit to go over there and find a trail to use them on!
