The PowerTrax is going to be more positive when it comes to turning both wheels on an axle.

The DTT (no clutches...worm gear driven) is going to get you out of 90% of those situations (completely subjective %).

The Stock LSD is going to need a large amount of input to get the tire on the ground moving.

Funny thing to think about...The 2006 CRD's have ESP and do not offer an LSD option. ESP senses wheel spin and applies the brake to that tire...which even without an LSD will transfer some power to the opposite wheel. In the CRD section, we have talked about this and wonder if we had a DTT and the ESP applies the brake it will automatically engage the DTT and we will move forward. Do the newer 3.7L KJ's have ESP?

I am probably going to go DTT front and rear...no buttons...no thinking...and good road manners.

Yea, I saw someone asking that question. I think all the newer KJ's have ESP - the rental I had this past winder had it.

That's an interesting situation!

The 3.7 do have the ESP that works the same. However, just for seeing them out there wheeling it does not instantly apply the brake (or enough to make a difference with an open diff). Seems that the wheels will start spinning for a second, then the Jeep will start to move again. Might be a problem when you need to keep momentum, but it's definitely better than just a stock open diff.

Darby,
YOu may want to confirm (somehow) that ESP stays enabled when in 4LO. Jeep designed the ABS and the clutch/ignition/starter safety switch to disengage when in 4LO, so they might do the same with the ESP.

Someone did mention something about ESP changing when in 4LO but we could never find out a verified answer to the question.

FREE COLOR LOGO DECAL or ROUND L.O.S.T. VINYL to the first to find out for sure how ESP works when in 2WD as opposed to4WDHi and 4WDLo...the clock is ticking...tick tock It must be well supported!

when i watched Superlift's Offorad Adventures episode about testing the 2007 Wranglers (was awesome, btw... jeep engineers really beat the crap out of them)... those also come with ESP... here's what the engineer had to say about it... not a direct quote but he explained it like this...

the ESP system consists of 3 different systems... ABS, Traction Control, and Stability Mgmt... while in 4-lo, ABS is "watered down", stability management is completely turned off, and traction control is still enabled... they guy went on to say that the traction control system is very capable offroad and is a lot like having a locker...

they not only showed 2007 Rubicons on the trail, but there were regular Wranglers out there with them... and you could clrearly see the traction control engaging by stopping wheelspin.

anyway, i've got the episode on my DVR computer... i may have to reencode it and post it up... it was quite cool seeing those guys tear the poop out of those new wranglers.

KEWL! Yes, post that up. You can use youtube.com for free. I just started using that for my amazing clips. You can upload up to 100MB per clip. That's about 5 minutes worth depending on compression used.

For Christ sakes. Put the darn thing in. Drive it around town without doing anything stupid, (flying around corners, full throttle burn outs or doghnuts on the asphalt). You will get used to the on-road characteristics and then go have fun off-road. You will love it. Period.

argh. Locker is NOT in yet nor will it be until I change my anti-freeze and my battery!

My needle was moving above normal in today's 100* weather. I'm overdue for a fluid change, so I picked up HOAT tonight and will try to do the job soon. I figure I'll replace both hoses too, and maybe the thermostat while I'm at it.

Then I noticed a lot of corrision over the neg battery terminal. A closer look revealed a slight crack in the battery's top where the terminal post comes out!

I guess it's time for a dry cell.

After those two projects, I'll tear the rear down. Boy, that thing is smaller than it looks in pictures. Heavy, but small. (7lbs - more reciprocating mass on the 4,780lb KJ!)
