I don't think there is anything unusual with the glass on the KJ.
You haven't experienced glass breakage until you've had the driver side window explode while you're driving on the freeway. (this happened to my Prius) Good thing I managed to remain in control of my bowels

I can relate to that, unfortunately. I passed a large dumptruck in my old '92 Sundance when it was about a year old, and two fist-sized rocks hit the windshield just in front of my face. I got a lapful of glass but somehow the windshield managed to stay together with two holes in it.

My southernmost portal slammed shut...

What surprises me in all the years of driving and replacing windshields is that most rocks seem to hit the glass and very few hit the paint. Either that, or the paint doesn't chip as easy. Maybe we should get some transparent paint and coat the windshield?

The Sundance was a great car, however ours had the opposite experience! My mom's old '93 Sundance-Duster (too young to remember the '90) had rock chips everywhere BUT the windshield! Even the mirrors, grille, hood, fenders, bumper!
Boy that car had terrible aerodynamics. The Dodge Nitro is better...
When I got my first KJ that surprised the heck out of me with the rocks starting to hit the windshield and none hitting the paint.... I wasn't expecting that.
