well i guess i posted to soon on friday.... i went to pick my kj up friday night and had some of the worst news when i got there. the words no compretion in cylinder 4..... valve job....$2000...what a kick in the balls. 70,000 miles and i am ether looking for a new motor or looking at a valve job. by the way a gaskit kit from napa is $450 for a 3.7. anyway if anyone knows of some good sites to find a motor i would like to see them. i think it will be cheaper for me to replace it.

it seamed weird to me that i have had no noises at all not tap, ping or click from the motor. they said that i could be carbin build up or it could be a bent valve. they weren't realy sure they would only know till they tore it a part. they said that in no. 4 cylinder 3 out of 5 times there wasn't any compretion. if anyone as any info please send it my way

thanks for all the info everyone has given to me and i will let everone know when its back up and running and what i did to fix it.

Dude, that sucks a big one. I would not pay 2k for that, I would get a second look like said above. 2k is alot of money to throw around if its not it. A valve does not just get bent, getting water in the engine can cause that.

well i was at one :(. well i thought i was still not to sure. i was not to happy with the guy by the time i left. i asked him if he was 100% sure that was the issue becasue i didn't want to spend that kind of money on a guess. he told me he didn't guess. and that he was right. but i do think that a second opion is in store. i have had it at two shops so far. but the first didn't do anything for me.

This is the same shop that said "the injectors are not shutting down", then realized "there is no compression in cylinder 4"? Did they show you the plugs? I'd want to see them myself, or better yet, I'd put a new set of NGK's in and pull them a week later to see what they look like. If its as bad as they say- I guess you only have to wait 5 minutes instead of a week. You can get a good idea by the type of fouling and which (as opposed to all) plugs fouling. They all foul? Just a couple? Wet, dry? Dont take their word for it at least until you spend $10 on some plugs to see for yourself.

You said it has 70K and never had a tune up?? Did you at least do routine maintenance?

well i have only had this jeep for 8 months. :( i have been useing ams oil in the jeep since i have owned it. i had planed on doing a tune up a 70,000 witch i had planed on doing the tune up first weekend of march but that was before i knew it was going to be broke down  . well i had planed on doing this but haven't done it yet. when i looked at the plugs at the shop they were ready to be changed thats for sure. there was lots of carbin build up on them.

to answer your questions:
the plugs were vary wet but only in cyilnders 2 & 4 almost like it was flooding out. the first shop i took it to they put the Autolites in and they said that it ran good for about 5 min. and then started acting up agian. when they pulled the plugs found that they were wet.

it had ngk's in there when it started acting up. but i did not try any new ngk's yet. as of right now i have spent my tune up money in laber so i have to wate till a pay check to come in. i had bought Autolites but they didn't put them all in only in 2 and 4.

this was only happing in two of cylinders and they were 2 and 4.
they were not getting compressin in cylinder 4, three out of five trys and a low compression in cylinder 2. but they didn't show me at the shop thats just what i was told. :?

i am not going to spend all that money on this till i know what is going on for sure. i am going to replace the two coils and all 6 ngk plugs. and do a oil change. and go from there. i also did some reading last night in my Hanse Book about the compresson testing and and how to narow the issue down. from what they said at the shop they did not do it the way the book said.

so yes i do agree with you that is why i didn't have them do anymore work on it. i told them that i didn't want them to work on it if they were just guessing!

well it will be a month this weekend since i have had my kj :( and it looks like i will be getting it back this weekend :) . as i posted earlier it was suspected of a valve job was needed. But it ended up being a broken valve spring. so i will be saving me a bite of money this way instead of a full valve job.

i have talked to two different dealers and both said there has been quite a few 3.7's with broken valve spring instead of bad valves. one of the shops said they had several different 3.7's in with the same thing last year...

Allyrand had a similar problem with his but the bad spring caused more problems and he ended up replacing one cylinder head assy. IIRC. Lucky for him his dealer covered it under warranty.

i ended up paying $40 a hour for laber. my local dealer was charging $60 and the origanl shop i had taken it to was $55 a hour. i would have been cheeper but i had some work done on my girlfriends car and added it to the bill. that added $25 to the bill so it would have only been $225 for the jeep.
