A lot of Liberties were purchased by women...A lot of women in their twenties and thirties who have adventurous spirits... Since I've bought my Jeep I can't tell you how many women I've been able to strike up conversations with just by commenting on their Liberties, or by asking if they know about the recall on lower ball joints....Just a few weeks ago while leaving a grocery store I saw a black Liberty Sport pull into a parking spot, and a stunning brunette get out...As she walked past me I said "Did I just see you get out of a Jeep Liberty?" When she said "Yes" I asked if she knew about the recall on the lower ball joints on Liberties.. ( I do this with almost every Liberty owner I see, and most of the time I have to explain what a lower ball joint is..) I told her that I also drive a Liberty and that it's one row over and two spaces farther away in the parking area than hers....She looked and said "Wow, yours is so...BIG!"
Have you ever been on a first date with a girl, and not known where she lived; then when you get to her house her driveway is steep and muddy because it's rained for the last three days, and you had to park your two wheel drive car at the top of the drive and trudge through the mud to pick her up and meet her parents... You get to the front door only to realize that you have mud past the tops of your shoes and that the two of you will have to make the same walk back up the drive...
All things such as that aside; when I bought my Liberty I was driving an '89 F-150 4x4 with a 5.0 and a "granny geared" 4 speed manual and 4.11 gears... Gas averages $3.48 where I live and from what I SAVED in gas money, I was able to make my payment on my Jeep...Gas mileage isn't great in a Liberty. I have a 32 mile round trip to and from work 10 out of 14 days...If I plan my errands, grocery shopping, bill paying etc. along with my drive to and from work 80-85 dollars in gas is what I spend in two weeks time, between paydays...
A Liberty is relatively small and nimble, with a tight turning radius, they fit into parking spaces easily. I've managed to get mine stuck once since I bought it four years ago, and that was in two wheel drive on a rather steep, off camber hill, on street tread tires, playing in the snow!!! As far as snow goes, I work for a US Postal Service processing facility and I've driven my Liberty through 18-19 inches of snow while on my way home from work during a blizzard here in Western NC two years ago... My Liberty has the NP242 transfer case, so I have the option of using FULL time four wheel drive (maybe snow, maybe dry pavement) With the 242 I have the option in snowy weather to use Full Time four wheel drive and not worry about whether I'm on dry pavement or snow...
Looking back on past experience I wish I would have had a Jeep as a first vehicle. It would have saved me a lot of trouble, as far as getting stuck in lowered two wheel drives etc....Just remember common sense goes a long way, and that four wheel drive can allow you to get a whole lot "more stuck" than two wheel drive...You've already found a great resource for information on Liberties...
"Be your own person, everyone else is already taken...."
This story may of just sold me. Ha! I think I may end up getting a Liberty and in due time adding to it, using pictures I see from this forum of other's KJ as inspiration (e.g., new front bumper, a lift, etc.). I appreciate it guys!
