Discouraged from a Liberty? I feel like you're choosing a vehicle off of your friends approval rather than yours. Well which ever vehicle YOU choose on just be sure to take pride in it and make it your own, there's so much you can do to a liberty really the options are endless, I use to sit in class and make lists of all the things I wanted to do to my liberty, browse around for pics of liberties, I think you'll be surprised.

you're right. it was 5500# hanging off the hitch. and it towed it just fine. even starting out on a hill.

I bet your clutch and flywheel love you.

so far no problems. it's just a matter of knowing how to drive and operate you're equipment. and timing your stops so that you don't ACTUALLY ever stop.

I'll be in the deep south of NJ end of march (30th to be exact) for a track day down at NJMP. you're more than welcome to come and observe the jeep in action, not to mention the collection of awesome cars running around the Thunderbolt track. :D

A lot of Liberties were purchased by women...A lot of women in their twenties and thirties who have adventurous spirits... Since I've bought my Jeep I can't tell you how many women I've been able to strike up conversations with just by commenting on their Liberties, or by asking if they know about the recall on lower ball joints....Just a few weeks ago while leaving a grocery store I saw a black Liberty Sport pull into a parking spot, and a stunning brunette get out...As she walked past me I said "Did I just see you get out of a Jeep Liberty?" When she said "Yes" I asked if she knew about the recall on the lower ball joints on Liberties.. ( I do this with almost every Liberty owner I see, and most of the time I have to explain what a lower ball joint is..) I told her that I also drive a Liberty and that it's one row over and two spaces farther away in the parking area than hers....She looked and said "Wow, yours is so...BIG!"
Have you ever been on a first date with a girl, and not known where she lived; then when you get to her house her driveway is steep and muddy because it's rained for the last three days, and you had to park your two wheel drive car at the top of the drive and trudge through the mud to pick her up and meet her parents... You get to the front door only to realize that you have mud past the tops of your shoes and that the two of you will have to make the same walk back up the drive...
All things such as that aside; when I bought my Liberty I was driving an '89 F-150 4x4 with a 5.0 and a "granny geared" 4 speed manual and 4.11 gears... Gas averages $3.48 where I live and from what I SAVED in gas money, I was able to make my payment on my Jeep...Gas mileage isn't great in a Liberty. I have a 32 mile round trip to and from work 10 out of 14 days...If I plan my errands, grocery shopping, bill paying etc. along with my drive to and from work 80-85 dollars in gas is what I spend in two weeks time, between paydays...
A Liberty is relatively small and nimble, with a tight turning radius, they fit into parking spaces easily. I've managed to get mine stuck once since I bought it four years ago, and that was in two wheel drive on a rather steep, off camber hill, on street tread tires, playing in the snow!!! As far as snow goes, I work for a US Postal Service processing facility and I've driven my Liberty through 18-19 inches of snow while on my way home from work during a blizzard here in Western NC two years ago... My Liberty has the NP242 transfer case, so I have the option of using FULL time four wheel drive (maybe snow, maybe dry pavement) With the 242 I have the option in snowy weather to use Full Time four wheel drive and not worry about whether I'm on dry pavement or snow...
Looking back on past experience I wish I would have had a Jeep as a first vehicle. It would have saved me a lot of trouble, as far as getting stuck in lowered two wheel drives etc....Just remember common sense goes a long way, and that four wheel drive can allow you to get a whole lot "more stuck" than two wheel drive...You've already found a great resource for information on Liberties...

Wow. I just about the ball joints we noticed mine are horrible .. rubber boot gone.. we were replacing the brakes and induced them .. when did you say thus recall was .. this was nice to know .. thanks for posting your story .... And noticed your ages on the women who drive liberty's.. I'm an adventurous none typical 46 with three grown boys who love mom s renegade... I'm told all time with laughter I'm obsessed with it ... That's because its so much fun ... Just to even drive .. very tough however to find other women even my age with this interest. Rather fi look for rims and tires then go to the mall ... Lol...

The cute actress in "ghost whisperer" drove a kj. I think that had a little to do with the stereotyping. But, I'm a man, so I don't give a crap what anyone else thinks...

This story may of just sold me. Ha! I think I may end up getting a Liberty and in due time adding to it, using pictures I see from this forum of other's KJ as inspiration (e.g., new front bumper, a lift, etc.). I appreciate it guys!

Where are you located at? Because I am sure we can get a few people up and do a drive in to your high school with a few good manly example of liberties. I do need a new set of tires

Its funny to me that this stuff comes up. like i said my buddy with a 2wd wrangler gave me crap when i first got my liberty. then i found an article that had the jeep wrangler listed as the vehicle most owned by homosexual men to send his way haha. its all bs. a vehicle is a vehicle and im sure you can find an article or a review to say whatever your looking to hear. i mean if you really want to you can point out negative things about any vehicle. An acquaintance of mine pulled up in his brand new custom made Lambourgini to show me and a girl he was trying to impress. First words out of her mouth was this isnt nearly as nice as a Ferrari! lol. classic. Just buy what you want kid...it'll all work out. stop trying to impress others and live for yourself and you will save alot of frustration and be much happier.

Look if your second guessing yourself buying a KJ/KK then I would think you wont be 100% happy. I remember loving every second with my KJ and proudly (even when bone stock) driving it all around town and Im a grown man in my late 20s. Did some people probably snicker at me? Sure, did I care? Not one bit. Moral is you have to be comfortable with YOU being happy and let all that other crap roll off your back.

Honestly go test drive one and youll know. I was 99% convinced before I drove my KJ and it was the only KJ I have ever driven and once I started it I knew it HAD to be mine. The drive down the road was just icing on the cake. :JEEPIN:

Yeah GCs have wonderful interiors at the price of tricking you into thinking youre not in a jeep. I miss the spartan interior my KJ had, although the huge amount of room I gained in my WJ was needed for the kid. As for outdated interiors I can sorta understand that statement, but then again I dont really subscribe to it as I dont need my interior to be "updated".

A Girl's vehicle....LOL! :-)r A Liberty is what you make it ( and I have seen some women with serious Libertys). The people who are giving you a bad time are probably jealous. Since you mentioned it however, a Cherokee is a great jeep too. Mine has over 308,000 miles and is running fine. It is a bit simpler than a Liberty and easier to work on by yourself. Get what makes you happy and forget about the haters.

Cherokee (XJ) was a "woman's Jeep" when it first came out too.
