I've searched for the thread to no avail. Someone once posted there was a larger capacity Ford oil filter that can be used. Anyone remember a good brand and part #? please. |

I believe you can't use that filter because it doesn't have the anti-drain back valve that is required the the 3.7L |

i'm leaning towards x2 on that amsoil (and a few other companies im sure) do have bypass filter kits and what not for remote mounting of oil filters |

Here are the links I think you refer to. What I said there is still valid. The Ford filter FL-400S isn't larger, and I haven't tried to fit an FL-1A. I've used plenty of FL-400S on the Jeep and plenty FL-1A on my Fords. Right now I'm using Wix. http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=407172#407172 http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=408742#408742[/url] |

anti drainback is not needed since the filter is not upside down, as in a lot of japanese vehicles. Therefore, the oil can't drain back. It just sits in the filter... |

I have been using the Wix 51515 filter on the 3.7L for at least 30k now (total of 122k on the ticker) with no issues, knock on wood. (this is the same filter that goes on a small block ford....I ran these on my Grand Cherokee with the I-6 too!) Don't know that the anti drainback, whether it is there or not, would have any effect since as was previously mentioned, the filter is upside down. I thought the whole idea of the anti drainback was to keep the oil in the filter when the engine is off. I'd think gravity would have that under control unless you are on your roof! |

Therefore, the oil can't drain back. It just sits in the filter... I think the anti-drainback will hold back all the oil above the level of the filter, that otherwise will drain down by gravity -- not just the oil in the filter itself.. |

But if the oil filter is full, gravity will keep it there. It can't hold any more oil, as it is already full and will stay that way by gravity.More oil can't drain there because it is already full. If you look at a napa gold filter box, it talks of the anti drain valve and states "if needed". The way I understand it, the 3.7 does not need it due to its close to vertical application. |

So all oil filters don't have an anti-drain back valve in them???? I thought they did?? |

I do the same. My father taught me to do it that way years ago, and I wasn't sure why at the time. It is a good practice for getting oil flowing faster after a fresh oil change. You know the quick change shops sure won't do it for you! |
