Greetings, I have been a long time lurker on this board. I bought a 2006 KJ Sport about a year and a half ago.

I just had a few questions, that I know some of you experts will be able to help me with.

1. My jeep has been idling at about 1000 rpm in Park, does that seem normal? It has been sounding a little louder to me.

2. At certain speeds my jeep gets a vibration. I took it to my mechanic and he told me it was the tires, he said that the sidewalls had problems, but it was not dangerous to drive on. I believe it is the tires because it was in the rear, and now it is in the front, he said he rotated the tires to the front.

I have been looking at tires for a while. I think I am going to go with the Firestone Destination A/T's, they look like the best bang for my buck. (I live in Denver, and do quite a bit of hiking and mountain driving, so I want some A/T's, but do not need anything more than that, no 4wheeling). Do you think that is a good choice?

3. I have an annoying vibration sound coming from the back seat, I think it is where the seat latches to the wall. Not sure how to fix this? I saw some people said they put some electric tape on the metal part to prevent any wiggle in the joint. Any other suggestions?

4. I do not know a ton about cars, at all. I can change the oil, but that is about it...(sad, I know). Are any of the liquids you put in your gas tank to improve gas mileage, or clean out your engine worth it? Is this something I should do as regular maintenance?

5. I am looking to get a ski rack, I think the Thule Snowcat 5401 is the cheapest solution for me. I do not need to carry anything else besides ski's (besides Christmas tree).

Thanks for taking the time to get back with me, and thank you for all of the information on this website.

Idle rpms should be 750.

Any ideas on why my KJ might be idling at 1000?

is the engine still cold when idling at 1000?

is the AC on when idling at 1000?

last time the air filter was changed?

the IAC (idle air control) could be dirty if it does it outside of the above situations

When warm, mine idles at around 600. As far as gasoline additives, the only ones that are effective are ones containing PEA (Polyether Amines) such as Redline SI-1, Chevron concentrate with Techron and Gumout Regane. Here's a link to a good write-up on this. http://www.yotatech.com/f116/cat-glowing-red-after-seafoam-treatment-138705/ Scroll down about half way.

Taking a shot at #3 - put a rubber band around the two rear middle seat belts that are right next to each other. It took me 8 months to find that sound and I haven't heard it since.

#4 - I'd just get a good tune up rather than adding anything to your fuel. I just changed my spark plugs, PCV valve and air filter and I'm actually getting about 1.2 - 1.5 mpg better.

#2 sounds like a broken belt in one of the tires.
