I brought the conversation up at my local 4x4 shop and I am having a hard time deciphering which would be the best man for the job? I am told that the DTT will be a little more difficult to drive offroad since I have a manual tranny. I guess this is because you have to work the gas and brake to get the gears in the rear diff to catch? (Am i gettin this right so far?) And on the other hand, The DL (which is the option I am leaning toward) seems to give a little bit of a rough ride, and sometimes the splines don't line up correctly while accelerating and turning, resulting in some clacking or what not? Am I gettin this right??? So, I like the cost of the DTT but I also would like to have the convenience of a locked differential. WIll I have problems wearing out tires with the DL?

Any suggestions that might persuade my decision? Go ahead, you can bash me for not getti my facts straight before posting, but that is my best understanding.?

I love the DL in the rear and it doesnt use up tires and you can tell its there, if you make a sharp turn you can feel it lock and hear a tire squeal and once in awhile you can feel it unlock when you brake but I have zero complaints with it what-so-ever! IMO go with the DL rear and DTT front, thats the exact same combo I have and I LOVE IT!!

no I didnt, to install one you have to know how to setup gears since this is a full carrier replacement unlike some of the others

one of those others is an aussie locker like i have... it is not a full carrier replacement. this means 3 things.
1. you can install it yourself.. it is very easy to put in.
2. it is much cheaper (it cost $300 from offroadlockers.com) .. plus saving on install
3. it is weaker since it is not a full carrier replacement.. however when was the last time you heard of someone breaking a rear carrier in a KJ?

the aussie works the same as a detroit locker.. and you will get clicking and the occasional 'CLACK!' from it.. for a min. you think your rear end fell on the ground but then you realize what's going on and it's natural. i find it does it after going around a moderately sharp to sharp corner without power (clutch in or shifting in the middle) then applying throttle (in next gear or just continuing with that one).. then it will do the loud noise.. that is a pretty rare occurrence but does happen. Also if you leave it in a gear and go around a pretty sharp corner it starts to 'hop'..since the 2 wheels are still locked since it's in gear and has power to the rear end.. when it starts to hop it can get violent pretty quick since the backlash compounds with every hop making the next one worse... easy solution.. push in the clutch. (this only happens while your still getting used to driving with it.. once you figure out what does what and when you need to coast or take a long shift you'll wonder how you lived without a locker for so long).

now that my book is done.. i went with a locker that is locked when power is to the wheels because i wanted to KNOW they were locked... not like ESP where you dont know which is turning.. i was afraid a DTT would be the same.. always wondering if you had them locked or if one would turn and not the other.

FYI - Darby and Jferg (hasn't posted in a while) - both broke PowerTrax lockers
don't know the strength comparision Aussie to PowerTrax - but they do break.

Personally I do too much street driving to put up with a locker - I have front and rear DTT's
no problems at all - any issues off-road are driver - not Jeep.
