So I've always wanted a vehicle with roof lights. Like I have an unholy obsession with making the roads at night as bright as possible. And It's starting to look like to kill 2 birds with one credit card purchase, I could get a basket on my roof and attach the lights to that like others have done.

I've seen some Mopar stuff for a couple hundred dollars, I'm not a big fan of their look though. Has anyone had any luck (or even tried?) to get a Cherokee roof basket to fit onto a libertys roof rack?

And can anyone throw up some places to check out some roof racks?

Thanks again guys,

-Chris

I had almost that same rack for about 4 years did decent enough job, got it back when Overstock had a ton of them for like 50 shipped or something like that. Make sure if you get one like that to either buy or make a fairing cause they will howl some with the wind

im not sure if you were talking about making the roads at night as bright as possible, referencing using roof lights on the road - you can't do that

but the roof lights are friggin AWESOME offroad at night!! I've used mine for workin on waterlines and what not at night and on trails , they def. come in handy!!

what's weird is, in Ohio in our revised codes, it says that roof racks MUST be wired to operate with the High beams...

are high beams for off road only?

in all seriousness, your high beams are only to be used with no other traffic on the road, like in very rural areas, so... If there is no other traffic, who the hell will know if the roof lights are on?

I love the lights on backroads. I'll wire them according to code when someone gives me legal grief over them.

I've got material and time to make you a rack if you're interested. They aren't as cheap as the bolt on baskets, but they aren't too godaweful expensive and they are a lot cleaner. Check out the link in my sig and PM me questions if you want to.

Forgive the self promotion, but I'm eager. :)

He does make some sharp racks.

I like the Black Widow for a bolt on basket style.

Well, if they are like the state police in Indiana, they don't know what the rules are. I emailed the website where our codes are displayed for some clarifications, they forwarded me to the staties, and they kicked me around from person to person until I stopped bothering and just did what I wanted...

Not sure you could say that about a Sheriff who had the job for over 25 years and knew more than any Lawyer about what was legal and what was not

I thought it was a bunch of crap too. I was only looking to see if it WAS legal to do it that way, so when people flash me and I'm only running my low beams (which happens all the time BTW), I can show 'em the meaning of brights, hahahaha

In all seriousness, I only want 'em that way for ease of use.

I doubt any street cop (at least where I live) would honestly check, and if they did they most likely wouldn't know what they were looking for. especially if you made it sound like they were hooked up that way, for example *points to a wire* 'if you look here, this wire runs from the switch to the hot from the High beams'

a cop where I live once (last week) tried to confiscate my shotgun for transporting it unloaded with the trigger locked in the cargo area. because it wasn't in a case. 'Doh.

You should have seen how pissed the cop he called for confirmation was when he pulled up.

I've yet to see that basket.... awesome! I think I'm going to order that this summer, mount 4 hella 500s to it with some type of a quick disconnect for wiring, that way I can take it off and use my kayak rack, or whatever.... just awesome!

Yeah where I live and where I visit in maine theres usually not alot of people on the road at night...Just deer, And some moose. And a few coyotes.

Very few cops would give me grief about it.

Personally I would only run then as high beans, shut then off if I see anyone near by, and use them for the same reason, animal avoidance, that and extra light on the trails haha :)
