I posted problems I was having with the frankelift II last year with ripping CV boots and binding.
http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=40161

Since that last post I purchased JBA 4.5 UCAs got standard axle shafts that were correct and had 3 months of time where boots were good and no problems. I then stopped babysitting the boots... went to change the oil a few months back and notice the passenger side ripped the inner and outer boots in half. So ticked off again, I spoke to some lift shops in the area and they feel that my experience is telling us there is too much lift in this liberty.

My Measurements
Drivers Front 22 1/2"
Passenger Front 22 3/4"
Rear Drivers 21 1/2"
Rear Passenger 21 1/2"

Most people around my area havent heard of the Frankenlift or done many Liberty lifts.... just a few here and there. I thought I would try one more trick and purchase some shaved shafts with HD CV boots from Jeeping by Al. I had the shop install the axle shafts and as soon as they pulled it out of the garage the passenger inner boot popped off. They put the boot back on, clamped it down and everything appeared okay. 30 miles later that same boot was ripped in half. Now I am trying to figure out what I can do from here. I like the ride of the OME springs and shocks and have my original struts in the garage. I went to a customizing lift shop in the area and he feels I need to reduce the angles on my CVs and thought that bringing the front end down a 1/2" to 1" would probably help it out. He felt with the 400lb spring rating of the OME 927s that I should swap them out with the LT 350lb rating of the OME 925 and if it drops too much to add clevis lift. I have asked several people to post their measurements (those without problems and without heavy front bumpers) and have found that most of them are 20" - high 21". I think I need to get my front end measurements between 21 1/2" and 22"

Just today I found someone in my area who has the frankenlift II and we compared lifts. He immediately noticed my bottom strut spacer was larger then his. We measured and my bottom spacer 1 5/8" and his was exactly 1 1/2". He said that the 1/8" difference would cause 1/4" lift. He was working on his vehicle so we couldnt get a center wheel to fender flare measurement, plus his was a renegade and felt that the flares might be different.

So here are the questions.....

1) What is the measurement of the bottom strut spacer on the Frankenlift II kit? Is it suppose to be 1 1/2?
2) What is the measurement of the top strut spacer on the Frankenlift II kit?
3) What could I do to the Frankenlift to lower it a 1/2" to 1"?
4) Does anyone have experience with the OME LT springs and ride quality?
5) With the Frankelift OME struts and springs can I use my old strut towers and make a OME lift kit by replacing the original front strut and spring with the OME ones or would I need additional parts that I dont have?
6) Any thoughts as to what amount of lift Question 5 might provide? Do you think the back end would be much higher then the front?
7) Anyone know what the stock spring ratings are? I have seen a range from 200lbs to 320lbs

Thanks for any and all help.

mine was at 22-22.5 for about 30k miles on just 927's and clevis, no problems with my cv boots

the numbers you're reporting are acceptable

the 925's are pretty close to stock ratio and are a bit of a waste

if you want to lose some height, say 1/2-3/4 of an inch or so, you could go back to a stock top plate for the struts

Thanks for any and all help.

By the way I ran mine with OME springs/ Rancho shocks with clevis lift/ top plate at 22.5-22.75 for over 100,000 miles. NO problems with the CVs until about the 100,000 mile mark then the only problem was what happens to most the CV / Intermediate shaft they rusted together. I am now running at 23 plus and no problems at all with boots or anything, drivers side CV is still stock
You need to find someone who knows what they are talking about instaed of ones who have never done a KJ lift before and think its not even possible to lift one!

Install 927 spring's, to stock upper and lower mount's, add 3 clevis ring's and you will get rid of the problem's !!! 22.25 to 22.50 is max lift, any higher CV boot's will tear "UNLESS YOU LOWER THE FRONT DIFF." or somthing of that nature - (TOM) !!!!

I was sitting at 23"-23.5" in the front, stock CV's for over 50,000miles with no boot issues until the left outer CV joint self destructed on a trail.

I pretty sure improper install is to blame as is in most cases when people are not familiar with lifting a KJ.

I bet the drivers side inner boot was the one torn. It's very easy to mess that one boot up when installing a lift in a KJ.I have always laid about 4-5 rages on the drivers side inner CV boot before installing the lift on that side to protect that boot from damage.

Thats the way I do wrap a good heavy rag around the drivers side inner. No problem with the rest of them with the install. Have gotten lucky on a couple and no problems yet on those

So are you saying to remove the Frankenlift strut and replace the Frankenlift top plate with my stock top plate and that will lower me 1/2 to 3/4? If that is the case that sounds like what I am looking for.

Tom,

Responses:
1) We measured at the bump stop which I think is the lowest part of the spacer. We measured at the same spot on both vehicles. The one measured 1 1/2 and mine measured 1 5/8.
6) Does the OME lift kit come with upper and lower spacers for the front struts or does it use the stock ones? Maybe another option for me would be like another forum user already stated .... do a spring only lift and add clevis to get me around 21.5 - 22.

Yeah I wish there was more experience available to me locally but unfortunately they are just lift shops selling skyjacker. I have been to three of them in the area and maybe they have done a couple ... and they are all using skyjacker. In your experience is there any way the front diff could be mounted differently in mine causing more angle on the axle shafts? This last round of boots were all on the passenger side. I am at a loss with this thing. I hear from everyone that my measurements are fine and angles look good but yet in the end the boots rip so something has to be wrong.

Yeah I am thinking that I need to be in that range with this Liberty... I dont know why others are having no problems at measurements over 22 1/2 but it seems to me that I am running around the streets at almost full droop (22 1/2) all the time. Then when I do hit a bump or get the front end to go full droop I possibly pinch the boot and rip it.

So your recommendation is to replace my OEM springs and struts with the springs and struts in the frankenlift and add spacers to get me back to 21.5 - 22? With that solution I should still keep the same ride quality right?!?!?!

Take apart your front stock springs/ shocks, use the stock parts, isolators etc ( use everything but the stock springs and shocks) replace the stock springs/shocks with the springs and shocks from the Frankenlift. Don't use any other parts from it, only those. Then you just have a spring lift, nothing else.
Let me know what you want for whats left! seriuosly! :frankie:

How much lift do you think I would get out of that? I would still keep my ride quality too right? What do you think about the option of just replacing the franky top plate with the stock top plate?

Can't use the stock top plate and the rest of the frankenlift due to the spacers.
With the OMEs only you'll have about two inches of lift so 21 inches or so.

Mud is right !!! add a 3/8 upper strut plate to each strut, and couple clevis's to each strut and "BAM" !!! 22.50 height, GREAT RIDE, NO SQUEEK's, POP's, OR BANG's from your front end anymore !!!

Sell your Franky part's to Tom cheap !! They make good wheel stop's !!!!

Seriously, the OME springs with Boiler-style top plate is THE lift to go with and is much cheaper. It works well for 245/75's (on '05-newer with a splash guard trim, anyway) as is or you can go with the clevis lift for a touch more.

We all jumped on the Franky bandwagon when it came out based on info from trusted sources. However, I know only two people who Frank-ied and both have bitten the bullet and gone to the other front lift style because of the issues with the Franky. The price of that thing coupled with outrageous installation fees ( if you do it there) for a job that took two guys who had never had a KJ front apart before 3 hours to complete at home versus how quickly it is probably done by profesisonals in a shop who do it regularly and made the product makes me wonder if the product is designed for maximum performance or maximum profit.

What is the Boiler-style top plate? I only have a stock top plate and the frankenlift top plate. Could I put the frankenlift top plate on the stock assembly? I could have sworn Quinn was talking about removing the top isolator and plate from the franky and replacing them with stock isolator and plate. I could have that wrong since it was a year ago I spoke with him last. I am going to try and get him on the phone Monday and see what he has to say.

Do you remember what those wheel measurements were on the vehicles you did?

Can't use the stock top plate and the rest of the frankenlift due to the spacers.
With the OMEs only you'll have about two inches of lift so 21 inches or so.

2" from factory spec which is somewhere around 18" -19" center wheel to flare? With this setup I shouldnt have to worry about it settling again since the springs are a year old?!?!?!?

Who besides Towstrap did a Franky, and changed? :? Chris has a Frankenlift, has had ever since he lifted his. Had about 50,000 plus before he went to OME 790s springs, still using the original Franky parts, I have installed two myself here besides mine ( using discarded Towstrap parts  )
