I posted problems I was having with the frankelift II last year with ripping CV boots and binding.
http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=40161Since that last post I purchased JBA 4.5 UCAs got standard axle shafts that were correct and had 3 months of time where boots were good and no problems. I then stopped babysitting the boots... went to change the oil a few months back and notice the passenger side ripped the inner and outer boots in half. So ticked off again, I spoke to some lift shops in the area and they feel that my experience is telling us there is too much lift in this liberty.
My Measurements
Drivers Front 22 1/2"
Passenger Front 22 3/4"
Rear Drivers 21 1/2"
Rear Passenger 21 1/2"
Most people around my area havent heard of the Frankenlift or done many Liberty lifts.... just a few here and there. I thought I would try one more trick and purchase some shaved shafts with HD CV boots from Jeeping by Al. I had the shop install the axle shafts and as soon as they pulled it out of the garage the passenger inner boot popped off. They put the boot back on, clamped it down and everything appeared okay. 30 miles later that same boot was ripped in half. Now I am trying to figure out what I can do from here. I like the ride of the OME springs and shocks and have my original struts in the garage. I went to a customizing lift shop in the area and he feels I need to reduce the angles on my CVs and thought that bringing the front end down a 1/2" to 1" would probably help it out. He felt with the 400lb spring rating of the OME 927s that I should swap them out with the LT 350lb rating of the OME 925 and if it drops too much to add clevis lift. I have asked several people to post their measurements (those without problems and without heavy front bumpers) and have found that most of them are 20" - high 21". I think I need to get my front end measurements between 21 1/2" and 22"
MOST ARE MORE THAN 20 inches 19 or SO WAS STOCKJust today I found someone in my area who has the frankenlift II and we compared lifts. He immediately noticed my bottom strut spacer was larger then his. We measured and my bottom spacer 1 5/8" and his was exactly 1 1/2". He said that the 1/8" difference would cause 1/4" lift. He was working on his vehicle so we couldnt get a center wheel to fender flare measurement, plus his was a renegade and felt that the flares might be different.
So here are the questions.....
1) What is the measurement of the bottom strut spacer on the Frankenlift II kit? Is it suppose to be 1 1/2?
WHERE ARE YOU MEASURING THIS AT ? THE THICKEST PART OR WHERE? 2) What is the measurement of the top strut spacer on the Frankenlift II kit?
3) What could I do to the Frankenlift to lower it a 1/2" to 1"?
NOTHING4) Does anyone have experience with the OME LT springs and ride quality?
WOULD BE LIKE STOCK SAME SPRING RATE5) With the Frankelift OME SHOCKS and springs can I use my old strut towers and make a OME lift kit by replacing the original front strut and spring with the OME ones or would I need additional parts that I dont have?
YOU CAN TEAR DOWN YOUR OLD FRANKENLIFT AND USE YOUR STOCK PARTS TO BUILD A OME SPRING LIFT ONLY. DIBS ON THE FRANKENLIFT PARTS6) Any thoughts as to what amount of lift Question 5 might provide? Do you think the back end would be much higher then the front?
OME SPRINGS ONLY ABOUT 21-21.57) Anyone know what the stock spring ratings are? I have seen a range from 200lbs to 320lbs
STOCK SPRINGS ARE 300-320 DEPENDINGThanks for any and all help.
By the way I ran mine with OME springs/ Rancho shocks with clevis lift/ top plate at 22.5-22.75 for over 100,000 miles. NO problems with the CVs until about the 100,000 mile mark then the only problem was what happens to most the CV / Intermediate shaft they rusted together. I am now running at 23 plus and no problems at all with boots or anything, drivers side CV is still stock
You need to find someone who knows what they are talking about instaed of ones who have never done a KJ lift before and think its not even possible to lift one!
