Hey fellow kj owners! Wanted to beef up my libby on a budget and was wondering if there are any swappable suspension components from other jeeps or suvs that are taller in stock form? Really looking for some taller coils that would be easy to pull from the yunk yard

Rear maybe, front no. Do it right and be happy instead of spending twice as much to do it wrong. |

XJ's use a separate coil/shock(solid front axle) in the front and the KJ uses a coilover assembly(IFS front). The XJ uses rear leaf springs while the KJ uses rear coil springs. No way to use XJ stuff on a KJ without spending the $$$ to do a SFA swap. |

Or you could find a used lift. They pop up occasionally on here when someone upgrades or sells their Jeep. |

OME 927/948 springs will get you 2.5" of lift. Ironman will get you about 2.25" of lift. If you want more, you can add a few things to get to 3.5", but then you'll need a-arms and that's where big money comes in. |

Surely someone somewhere has opened up thier struts and shoe horned taller springs in there? |

My feeling is that you will spend far more on experimenting on junk yard parts and getting them to fit, than you would have with a spacer lift. If you don't want to spend a lot of $$ I think a Daystar kit is only like $160 for 2.5". If you want to build your lift and be a little different try something like this http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=42773 a different option would be to use these shocks http://www.bilsteinus.com/products/motorsports/universal-motorsports-strut/ and some Eiboch spring. The top of the struts would have to be machined to match the Liberty's. I'm not certain that the shocks would fit inside the Lib's strut fork, so you may have to fabricate new one or and adapter to fit. Not junkyard cheap but I hope that helps |

dstnm523 wrote: Surely someone somewhere has opened up thier struts and shoe horned taller springs in there? Shoehorning springs in is not the way you go about it. What has been tried/tested and worked is it After over ten years of trying different things I think the setups we have work the best , now if you want to build a lawn ornament, been a few done that as well The way the front suspension is designed there is only so much you can do. 4 inch lift is it |

I bought my first CRD with an OME spring lift, but the PO used the stock struts and shocks. The first time I was taking a corner out in the desert a little fast to test/learn how stable or unstable the liberty was. I almost rolled the thing... I installed OME struts and shocks with the OME springs, and it handles excellent now. The stock struts and shocks are valved to match the springs, and that makes a reasonable SUV. Mess around with mismatched suspension components and you may roll it, or have to drive ridiculously slow off road, or on tight corners.

Very true, try to tell people to use quality parts and but they would rather save 50 cents and not have as good of a ride or handling |

Hmm..Good advice.. I think I just like to look at different pieces of different rigs and think of ways they could be used together. I also didn't realize that the springs were paired to operate along with the shock. Passed up some "non lowered" liberty springs without realizing at the time what they were. Went back to the yard and they had scrapped it. Guess i'll keep saving for non trash parts lol |

More than likely would not have gained anything with " nonlowered springs" If they had more than 40,000 or so they would already be sagged anyways |

Dakota/durango shocks. Wj rear lower arms (requires drill/tap of 1/4 steel then weld to control arm for sway bar) If you shall get lucky enough... Nv 241 t case. (Stronger than 231) Kk Clevis. Extra iso's from wrecked kj's. Point in case... The eye to eye dimensions of the kj and wj rear upper a arm are the same, except that the axle mounts are different. Likewise IRO makes a super super sexy adj a arm for the wj, provided you make your own axle bracket, you can use it. |

If so you can grab a truss and throw it onto the axle and make a mount for their joint. |

you dont even need to do that. three bolt holes in perfect locations... custom made bracket would be way easier than a whole truss. |
