New guy from central florida here.
I Just wanted to stop in and say hi as I am trying to work out a deal on a 2006 Jeep Liberty CRD 4x4 Sport with around 60,000 miles. I test drove it yesterday and it runs great is in great shape and the owner is asking $13,500. I have had my eye on the Liberty for quite some time and thought if I every find a CRD at a good price with low miles, I am going to grab it. Well that time has come. The only fear I have is that this Liberty was clearly flat towed behind a RV and still has the tow bar mounts up front. The ball joints and steering components look and feel to be in good shape with no play, transfer case shifts in an out of gear easily, etc.. Is there anything else I need to look for. Once I purchase the vehicle I will follow the steps in the CRD newbie guide, but before I purchase is there anything I need check out otherwise. The seller has agreed to let me take it to a mechanic to have them check it out, but to be honest I am not sure my regular mechanic can handle the CRD, he says he can. Whats the average cost to own/maintain one of these, not a huge concern? Whats the usual big ticket repair items I can expect? I understand the timing belt needs to be replaced before 100,000, but is there any other obvious items. If I can get close to 30 mpg out the Liberty I will be doing good, I currently drive a 2005 Hummer H2 SUT on 37" Goodyear MTRs, which I will be keeping for wheeling and camping, etc.. Its paid for and lets face it, no one will give me what its worth, especially with all my mods. The Liberty will be used for my work vehicle to save on fuel and wear and tear on my H2. And yes the Hummer gets wheeled quite often. I'd post pics, but since this is not a Hummer forum I'll refrain unless you guys want to see pics and its ok with the admins.
