switch help... anyone...

I want to use a dpdt switch, I think, to be able to have lights come on with another set, but still be able to throw on the set at anytime.
Would this be called a momentary dpdt switch?
Thinking of going with the bay for it, but it is dicey thinking that I might get a crappy one.

I think a "momentary" switch is one that you would have to hold for it to stay on, You need a standard dpdt switch. I've got to get one too so I can install back up lights that will come on in reverse or when I want to turn on separate.

I think that might work, I think it is good to control two sets of lights. Not 100% sure.
This is how I wired mine.

-One is to have the lights come on automatically when triggered by another power source, ie: reverse lights/parking lights.
-Two is off all the time
-Three is turn them on independently.

ya I am trying to reswitch my under jeep lights...
I want it to be able to be in 1-on with cab lights, 2-off, 3-on by itself.
Does that help a little bit more?

So that's where I am... help!
I am trying to do this...
make the under jeep lights turn on by themselves with the bottom throw, and then have under jeep lights turn on with in-cab lights for top throw, and center off-meaning cab lights still work but under jeeps are off...
Does that make sense?

Do you intend to used relays or do you intend you run heavy gauge wire x3? Not enough information is known for anyone to give you non-fire-starting advice.

easy way.

run a relay.

one set of contacts: wire like a standard switch. 12v power into switch, switch out to lights.

second set of contacts: on the battery side. 12v to relay, relay to switch, relay sense wire runs to the desired trigger (cab lights/reverse/parking lights etc.). then from relay to switch.

I have a wiring diagram around somewhere.

I wired my roof rack lights this way:
(I used a fuse panel with a heavy gauge hot wire straight to the battery)

fuse panel to split-y connector (one wire into two)

one side of Y to the switch, then out to the lights, other side goes to the relay.

relay's sense wire runs to a tap-splice into the High beam power wire at the headlight.

relay's output goes to the other side of the switch, then out to the lights.

center terminals are obviously neutral.

top position is always on

center is off

down position causes roof lights to engage when high beams are activated.

perfect for back country roads at night.

I have in-cab courtesy lights, switch, and under jeep lights.

How to do yours:

fuse panel (if you want to use one) or Fused 12v from battery (power supply) to split-y connector (one wire into two)

relay's output goes to the other side of the switch, then out to the lights.

so you will have:

position #1 : ON

center: OFF

Position #2 : ON with courtesy lights

Each side is one set/pair/group/side/etc. of lights (or at least you can think of it that way.)

Each negative is out to the lights, one negative will have the relay coming off of it, then to the lights.

the other will go straight to the lights.

the center is where your fused 12v HOT will go. (it is a common hot)

Okay I am still having trouble... don't want to burn up my smds b/c I then have to glue... yes... new ones on.
so I can hookup the under jeep lights to one side, and then for the other side of the switch, both the under jeeps and cab lights and that will make one throw under only, and the other throw unders and cabs right?
