Please excuse me if I have overlooked this thread somewhere else, but I am having a heck of time finding information on replacing the rear brake lines on a 2005 Liberty CRD. I have been having problems with the rear calipers sticking/dragging, and read where the inside of the soft lines breaks down and causes this issue. So I got this idea that I would replace those soft lines. Especially after having a front line blow a couple weeks ago and promptly replacing both soft lines in the front. Anyway, I ordered replacement brake line hoses from Advance Auto and jacked up the ol' Heep last night, only to find that it looks like the existing hoses are permanently installed into the steel line. What the heck? Do I have to replace the steel lines too?

Thanks for any replies!

Anyone else ever run into this issue and if so what did you do about it?

Was replacing the brake pads & rotors on the front and decided to replace the rears as well on my 05.
I found the rear caliper pistons looked really bad so I decided to replace both calipers, pads, and all brake hoses on the rear. So I ordered all three new replacement rear brake hoses from AutoZone only to find that the existing outside hoses left & right are permanently mated to the steel lines. The rubber flex hoses and metal lines are all one piece back to the "TEE" block and cannot be disconnected from each other unless you cut them into. They don't come apart! What the heck?  See pictures below.
The center hose (frame to axle) fit perfect with no issues.
Guess I could cut the metal line off at the fitting, add a flare nut and flare the OEM tubing to screw into the new hose fittings??? :banghead:

I checked all the local parts stores including NAPA and they all simply supply the same little short rubber flex hoses that have a screw in female fittings for a metal line.
Checked all the normal online places and all they list is the short rubber hoses by itself as well.

I did find these oddball one piece hose/metal lines on a couple of the Mopar vendor sites and RockAuto, and the left one is over $300 dollars while the right one is only around 40 bucks and it is the much longer line. Makes absolutely no sense at all!
Just another one of those crazy oddball things on this vehicle so I guess I should not be real surprised. :dizzy:
I simply reused the OEM hoses until I figure out what the best course of action will be.

Hello WWDiesel,

Have you looked at the stainless brake lines Seth has at Sasquatch?

Not sure if that would be a solution :juggle:

Yes and thanks.
But the kit he has is for the two front hoses and rear center hose, not the two outside hoses with the one piece hose/metal lines that are on the rear which is the issue. :(

Option 1: break out the tubing flare tools and make some splices.

Option 2: convert over to an 06 style of rear lines and hoses. Put a T block up at the chassis connection and bend some new line.

Option3: come up with something better than options 1 and 2.

I would go for the cut and flare option WW. It looks like it could also be an opportunity for you to come up with a custom rear brake line set and block !!

:ROTFL: Just what I need, another project kit! :ROTFL:
I will think on it.
Right now I am using the OEM hoses and hoping they are OK so I don't have to replace them. But if I notice any caliper dragging, I will definitely be going the cut and flair or simply replace the metal brake lines with new ones. Time will tell... I did replace the center brake hose and I think it was the culprit or the caliper pistons were sticking?

Crawled under the 2006 and looks the same. Another great design idea from Mopar :5SHOTS:
