It was truly amazing watching Jim climb into the engine compartment and pull stuff apart or slap it back together. There's no way I ever could have kept up with him even when I was younger.
I am totally thrilled that my rocker arms are in great shape, the rollers are all still rolling perfectly smoothly. The timing belt wasn't all that bad either, for being slightly over eight years old. It may well have lasted a few more, but I feel better having it done.
When we "buttoned it up" last night, we left the fan out since the factory fan clutch was toast. I put the skids back on this morning and drove it to the parts store and ran a couple of other errands; I am amazed at how, even in stop and go traffic, the temp gauge never got past 12:00. I kind of wonder why I even bothered with the new fan clutch.
Thank you both for the very kind comments! I'm honored that anyone would be brave enough to let (as your astute neighbor put it) "some guy from the internet" come and play with your car.

I do think I figured out why that step ladder kept on slipping out on me however:
Your Italian Mistress was kicking it out from under me!
For everyone else that is (I'm sure) quite confused right now... I'm not exactly a garden gnome in height, but Dave has a 2 inch lift on his CRD, 245/75 tires (MMM beefy) and an enormous ARB steel bumper on the front. Access to the engine was a bit *ahem* of a stretch. (Danger, NSFW thoughts ahead) I spent much of the day on my knees, reaching deep into places that are hard to find, to service Mistress' needs.
The short ladder that was helping me get enough reach kept on sliding out from under, and I kept bashing my chest on the bull bar. Ouch.
Do keep an eye on the coolant levels over the next few days - We did lose some of yours, while I was able to save just about every drop of today's job (his looked like orange soda BTW, so you may want to flush that thing until it is clear and start fresh) and it filled the bottle at the first start.
More to come!
