LOL... Actually, I have a standing event every year in Lost Wages - The National Association of Broadcasters convention (NAB) that runs the first week of April.

I was contemplating driving out for the next one, as I added up all the costs and sunk about a grand into my flying trip this last time. That is a lot of coin to drop on a junket when you are a sole proprietor business. The upside this year is that I made a great contact with a gear company and earned back that grand in consulting with them. The bad part... They are paying in gear that I might not have otherwise bought.

Anyway... I'd be happy to make a trip of it, doing timing belts along the way. There is a member in Austin that asked in this thread... I know there are some in Bayou country in MS or LA... I wouldn't ask you to cover my stay (or bets) in Vegas, but I'd be happy to make the jump to Southern Cali if there are some there too?
Hmm.... Now you have me thinking.

FOUR HAVE CONFIRMED!

The schedule is getting filled, but there are still days / places available, and a whole weekend that could be used if your week isn't convenient. Don't let this opportunity pass you by.

The current schedule as I predict it (of course, subject to change if things get sideways):
Friday the 13th: DC area - Timing belt and head studs. BIG day, starting at 9-10am, hopefully finished by 5pm.
Saturday the 14th: South NJ near the Delaware bridge - Timing belt, water pump, glow plugs. Starting around 10am, finished by 2.
Sunday the 15th: Long Island near Hicksville - Timing, water pump, glow plugs. Starting around 10, done by 2

Monday the 16th: OPEN! I have family stuff at JFK that night, so I am staying in the NY area. Maybe you are there?

Tuesday the 17th: Boston - Timing, water pump, glow plugs. Start time TBD, probably late afternoon.
Wednesday the 18th: Bridgeport, Ct - Waiting on confirmation... Could be open!
Thursday the 19th: Same area... Same problem. No confirmation or cancellation yet.
Friday the 20th: mid-NJ on the road to Atlantic City... Same problem! No confirmation or cancellation yet.

As you can see, I have 4 potential open days. I will happily adjust the schedule on the end if anyone jumps on, but I need to know ASAP.
For those that have confirmed, thank you, I appreciate the certainty for my planning.

Still on the fence? I can accept credit cards if that helps, you won't ever find a dealer "tech" that has touched a CRD engine as much as I have, and I'm bringing all the tools needed for the job! ALL you need is the parts and a couple gallons of proper HOAT coolant. What dealership could get your vehicle back in less than one day for the same price and quality level?

You know you want to. Send me a PM now, and I will reply back within a couple hours.

Lol, I actually almost moved to Seattle back in the early 2000s, but I might be able to be talked into flying out there and driving to people. It would have to be at least 4-5 so the travel cost didn't kill everyone.

I'm open to the idea... Even considering I'm just now 1 hr after finishing the first visit of THIS trip!
12 solid hours doing the timing and head studs on User113's CRD here in DC. I had a great day, the weather was fabulous, Taroo came out and hung out the whole day, even LMW stopped by for a bit.

David's CRD... She is a beauty, and does sound quieter with the studs in. More on that later... After I congeal a bit. I feel like I was in a war with half the Italian navy... I'm not sure yet who won. :p

Now... Steak and Egg in Chevy Chase. Yum!

Don't feel too bad, once it got dark, she was doing everything possible to hand out three butt-kickings simultaneously. We were banging pretty fast trying to tie it all up before it got too incredibly late.

Geordi did a great job and really knows his stuff! Man could tell you every nut/bolt size and torgue amount from memory. Highly recommend him to all of you who need a TB job, or other work, on the east coast.

I will send the pics to Geordi and User113 to do with as they wish. It was a blast to participate in the valve cover removal and ARB stud upgrade in addition to the TB replacement.

Italian engineers drink too much vino!

It was truly amazing watching Jim climb into the engine compartment and pull stuff apart or slap it back together. There's no way I ever could have kept up with him even when I was younger.

I am totally thrilled that my rocker arms are in great shape, the rollers are all still rolling perfectly smoothly. The timing belt wasn't all that bad either, for being slightly over eight years old. It may well have lasted a few more, but I feel better having it done.

When we "buttoned it up" last night, we left the fan out since the factory fan clutch was toast. I put the skids back on this morning and drove it to the parts store and ran a couple of other errands; I am amazed at how, even in stop and go traffic, the temp gauge never got past 12:00. I kind of wonder why I even bothered with the new fan clutch.

I'd wait to put on the new fan till next summer! Glad you're all taken care of!

Thank you both for the very kind comments! I'm honored that anyone would be brave enough to let (as your astute neighbor put it) "some guy from the internet" come and play with your car. 8) I do think I figured out why that step ladder kept on slipping out on me however:

Your Italian Mistress was kicking it out from under me!

For everyone else that is (I'm sure) quite confused right now... I'm not exactly a garden gnome in height, but Dave has a 2 inch lift on his CRD, 245/75 tires (MMM beefy) and an enormous ARB steel bumper on the front. Access to the engine was a bit *ahem* of a stretch. (Danger, NSFW thoughts ahead) I spent much of the day on my knees, reaching deep into places that are hard to find, to service Mistress' needs. :ROTFL:

The short ladder that was helping me get enough reach kept on sliding out from under, and I kept bashing my chest on the bull bar. Ouch.

Do keep an eye on the coolant levels over the next few days - We did lose some of yours, while I was able to save just about every drop of today's job (his looked like orange soda BTW, so you may want to flush that thing until it is clear and start fresh) and it filled the bottle at the first start.

More to come!

Speaking of orange soda, the 5-year coolant I picked up at the dealership Friday has changed. It used to be MS-9769, part number 05066386AA; but the new stuff is MS-9769G, part number 68048953AB. Instead of looking like orange soda, it now looks like fruit punch!

They DO know that you needed an HOAT coolant for a diesel, yes? Not questioning you, but the dealership droids have been known to hand out an "Oh, this is for all our nameplate vehicles, they all run it" kind of answer.

We used Zerex G05 today, what came out was again orange soda, what went in was mostly clear with a slight yellow tinge. Not like the color means anything, but the bottle actually states that it is an HOAT in the fine print warning.

I was geordis timing belt and glow plug appointment today and am very satisfied with all the work he did. He knows all the ins and outs of the CRD engine and basically a walking talking CRD encyclopedia. I am very glad and thankful that he was able to work on my crd because as we all know, the "dealershits" have know idea when it comes to these engines.

If I were to do this job it would probably take me 3 days of down time on the jeep a and lot of mini seizures and much much cursing especially with glow plug # 3 :banghead:.

haha Sorry Jim!

Anyways, great guy, hard worker, and very knowledgeable when it comes to the crd.

Just saw this yesterday. We have an '05 with 86K miles, 2 hours north of Albany NY, 5 minutes from I-87. Needs the belt job before it gets driven to Montana in a couple of months.
