I will soon be removing the driver's side back seat and lifting up the carpet and padding in search for the wire harness and "pin set" so that I can wire in power to my Kennedy lift pump.

Before I begin, I want to make sure that I have all the electrical parts that I need. In that regard, my question is as follows: would someone please explain to me what parts are needed and how I go about "adding one pin to the right side" of the pin set for power to the lift pump? The quotes are from a comment left by dgeist on Jan. 19, 2009, in which he notes that "the wire harness is already pinned out for your lead under the carpet."

Apparently, it is not necessary to splice into the wire harness for power because the harness is already "pinned out" for power to a lift pump in the Liberty CRDs. I'm pretty sure that I can find the "pin set", but what do I need and how do I go about attaching a naked wire to the "pin set" in the CRD? I have the wires that I need; and I know how to splice. I just don't know whether I'm going to need something else when it comes to connecting to the "pin set".

I'm very grateful for all of the detailed explanations on how to install the lift pump, and they have helped immensely, but I can't seem to find any information on this point. Any guidance would be appreciated.

Your years behing the crown but IF you have a pin you can insert it into the connector of the cable on the right that goes through a plug in body. Without the pin splice into wire in the cable that comes into the front by the connector.

Years behind the crowd, yes. But better late than never. Besides, I just picked up this CRD used.

You write that if I have the pin, then I can just plug it in. That is precisely the issue. What pin? How do I get that pin? The guys at the local shop told me that I needed to know what pin I needed before they could order it for me.

Any other guidance you might have would be readily appreciated.

Maybe this will help you out. Gonna put one on mine too as soon as my warranty is out.

The Eurekaboy site is an excellent primer on the install job. But apparently, it's not necessary to splice. You can just plug it into the "pin set" ... if you know how that's done; and I don't.

Given that Jeep designed the CRD to come with a lift pump, and pinned it out for a lift pump, doesn't it make sense to use the pin set?

Maybe making too much out of trying to avoid a splice where it shouldn't be necessary,

I think the harness is the same one thats in the gasser Liberty...
Ours was never designed to have a lift pump but should have been.
If the only thing stopping me from getting a Kennedy going was power, I would be splicing, soldering and heatshrinking
and not look back, but thats just me.... :) :)
Don't know how much trouble it will be to find what your looking for.

I've been running this same setup for over a year with no problems. I just used a inline crimp to get power to it, works fine for me. Grounded the neg on the body. Every few months I check and make sure it still works when i turn the key. Not a cheap pump to buy. I think if I was to do it again I would have found a $40 Facet inline pump and made it work.

PLEASE NOTE the top post in the tech section. It's not for questions!!!

I just spent 2 minutes and found this write up that answers all your questions.

http://www.auerbach.ca/kj/lift_pump/

Dusting off the cob webs this is how many got the pins to install the intank lift pump.

The last harness, from under the seat to the tank, is longer on the CRD's and is different then a gasser. In addition the 05 and 06 CRD cables are different because the 06 has ESP and 05 has a sensor in the differential. So it was determined there was no factory cable to "plug n play". The common procedure many used was to buy a cable and use the ends to get the pins they needed. With the intank there were 2 pins needed at the tank and one under the seat.
Those who did the install using parts of a new cable then had spare wire leads with pins on the ends that they mailed to others.

I think there's a good write up on the procedure in the CRD TEch section :jester:

Does this make sence? So you have a couple of choices. Go to a junk yard and get cable with the correct gender plug and use what you need. Or do as Smoken Joe and Salty Dog suggested.

Thanks for the link and write up.

With the Kennedy, I gather that I only need the one male pin (Apex 2.8mm terminal, no. 54001801). That's exactly what I needed. If I can find it locally, that would be great.

I really appreciate your input.

Thanks again.
