This might not be worth a quarter, but it's my 2 cents
For mainly road use, nothing is safer or works better in winter than a good winter tire. In the spring, get another set. This might be expensive to set up, but both sets will last longer for being run only part of the year. Besides the real value is in having tires suited to the conditions. I have been raving about my Nokian Hakkapeliittas, but I understand they are not readily available in some locations. Another really good winter tire is Bridgestone Blizzak DM3, which are available in KJ sizes. Most people I've talked to who run winter tires are really glad they did that, in terms of greatly improved traction on ice especially. Much safer IMHO. In the summer, there are a whole range of tires that are suitable for the KJ, and to be honest I still haven't decided on which ones I will be getting. But Firestone Destination A/T seems to be a good option. Not sure, but if there is one thing I AM sure about in my 33rd winter of driving: good winter tires are worth their price in safety and peace of mind.

i actually think the bfg atkos look like crap , cheesy, impossible to clean, montgomery wards lookin lugs. at least they used to have a cool looking tread.

when i come into some money i plan on putting some real tires on mine, i figure some 9.50-29x15 front baja belted HPs on some 7 inch rims and some 11.50/29x15 original baja belted on some 10inch rims.

i love the ultimate bias ply traction, and 6 plys for airing down a bit. and REAL sidebiters

I dont like the bf at's as they work better off road, they have a ery flexy sidewall compairable to the gy gsa's. The firestones are excellent on road, stiffer ride but handle much better on highway. Got 47k on a set on my tj. I think I'm going to get a set of winter rims and tires for the libby as the stock gy's stink in the snow but ride nice on the highway. I now have two sets of them also, the libby has just over 6k on it and I picked up a jk x with the same exact tires. I'm getting 33's for the jk so I'll have an extra set for summer.

I just wanted to update this thread for future searches... I finally made my choice this past Saturday and went with the Firestone Destination A/T. I love the tread design and the overall look of the tire on my Liberty. I got all 5 tires replaced for a nice price as my local store was having a sale.

I have the ATR's and love them. They are quiet, good wet and dry traction and the price was right.

Put Nokian Vatiivas on mine and I'm very happy with them. Love them in the rain and snow, run quiet on all surfaces, wear well even though they have great grip on all surfaces.

The Destination AT's were my second choice, the only reason I went with the Cooper ATR's over them was the price difference. I have to say I'm happy with my choice but I still would consider/buy Firestone's in the future.

I really wanted something more aggresive at first for the 3% of the time I am off road, but reality set in and the 97% highway time won.

BVCRD - My driving seems to be about the same as yours (mostly highway). This is my DD, with very light offroading. Nothing more than fireroads, backwoods trails and mud when I feel like fooling around. The ATR's are good for my needs. I think they are pretty aggressive looking myself....

I do mostly highway driving also and so far I'm very pleased with the tires. They are not noisy at all on the highway and very comfortable after 1 month or so of driving around. I looked at a lot of tires before making the purchase and am glad I did because there are so many excellent pieces out there.

They are more aggressive that the suckyears, but I was dreaming of a bad ars loking tire. Then I got my head back on straight and got the ATR's.

Tires are still there. The specifications for various sizes were removed for some reason, but I happened to save them.
Sorry it doesn't look pretty.

I've read several reports about the WRs and all of them have been raving about how good they are for winter driving. One reviewer called them the best tires he's ever driven on. I don't have any personal experience with them, however. I do own Nokian winter tires of a different series (Hakkapeliittas) and they are great tires.

Honestly, I love the pattern of the NOKIAN WR SUV's it looks very grippy for highway driving. While vatiiva's got that off-road capability look to it. I am going to have to find a local dealer and get some pricing. I wonder why the vatiivas were removed from the site.

I called local dealer and they don't stock them, but will be searching statewide and will let me know the pricing on WR and Vatiivas.

Nope, not planning to swap tires. As for the WR's, just got the confirmation from STS that they are on back order, and not widely available in the states.
They got vatiivas for $145 mounted. I thought vatiivas were all season tires.
