It would be sweet if 21 mpg was accurate though! It could be. I didn't mean to rain on your parade. I'm not usually a pessimist. Chalk it up to being Jeepless for the week.
Maybe after I get my new engine installed I'll get better mileage again, too. The crate should be arriving at my mechanic's tomorrow!

Forgive me if you mentioned already, but how many miles will be on the "new" engine that's going in? I'm sure you've got a lot on your mind about it, but do you have to contact Jeep or your insurance company about this?
The new engine is a remanufactured 3.7 from the same year that will be plug and play. The company that remanufactures the engines is Jasper Engines out of Indiana.
http://www.jasperengines.com/index.php Their remanufactured engines come with all new internal and external parts, so the motor will have 0 miles on it and be run-tested at the factory. It also comes with a 3 year, 100,000 mile warranty on it for both parts and labor should something go wrong. I went this route over a junkyard motor even though it is more expensive because I like the peace of mind of the warranty and I want to keep my KK for a long, long time.
Insurance doesn't cover this repair because I didn't collide with anything. If I had hit an object and it ruined the motor, that would be a different story. Instead, this is an internal failure of a rod bearing. Unlucky and pretty rare because I haven't seen this on the forum before. Also, engine replacement is not covered under warranty because the lifetime power train warranty from 2008 only applied to the first owner of the Jeep, and I am the second owner. I am way past the 3 year, 36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty that was transferrable.
