So I can walk into any showroom in the 50 states, buy an Expedition that gets 12 mpg, and yet I can't buy a CRD or VW diesel for that matter because measured statically they emit more sulphur (if they're not using biodiesel) and oxides of nitrogen. As far as I know, come October, the only light truck/car diesels to be sold in America will be the MB E320 CDI and the Jeep Cherokee. Anyone know why the EPA and the States don't measure emissions/mpg?

Oh yeah. Bush/Cheney are in office. What oil company flunky did they put as head of the EPA?

This thread is quickly on its way to deletion/editing I believe

I tried to bring up this exact thing not long ago and it didnt catch much attention. I guess I should have said something about politics or insulted someones intelligence :?

Anyhow does anyone actually know why they dont measure emissions per mile instead of however they do it now. There has got to be some reasoning behind it even if it is faulty reasoning. Reggie mentioned that the test is for PPM but no one else knows anything at all?

OK guys and gals...we are all after the same thing...better information, cheaper diesel, smarter politicians and a more generous supply of productive ideas.

Sometimes we move backwards and start pointing fingers and throwing barbs...and in the process nobody is doing any constructive listening. All the empty rhetoric becomes redundant useless information...it becomes a competition of "who got the last word in" instead of a treasure of ideas. Lets try to keep the posts informative and respect EVERYONES opinions.

If you read the posts above and remove the "verbal attack sections", it is obvious that this subject is influenced by a complicated variety of sources...Keep it informative!

Anyone who blames "the friends of Bush/Cheney" for the past twenty years of declining mpg average is childish and rather upsetting. I've said it once and I'll say it again POLITICS HAS NO PLACE ON THIS BOARD.
Politics "has [sic] no place on this board" yet you insist upon voicing YOUR political beliefs. Beavis.

As far as Old Navy goes, you responded earlyier that this thread was a "DA" thread, whatever that means, and that you wouldn't lower yourself to post again. And, yet, you DID post again with your geopolitical BS views and your insulting, narcissistic tone. With your spelling and grammar, I have serious doubts that you have a firm grasp of the English language, much less anything else.
Wow I rather enjoyed that verbal assualt on myself and another member, gave me a good chuckle. I am not kidding I really got a laugh out of AZ CRD's post, talk about miss reading a person such as myself. Oh well I still love him because he does drive a diesel. :D

PS: If anyone has some spare reading time I can do a resume that covers 30 years of travel, education (two degree's), war, poverty, starvation, and other general life experiences. Actually I have toyed with doing a autobiography and telling it all, but there are some things that just can not be make public till after I am on the final big adventure.

PS: AZ I never said I could spell.

DW's points are well taken. I apologize. No harm intended. It's just the Internet after all.

And, old navy, I'd love to hear a story or two sometime. Also appreciate the technical info on CCV fixes, etc.

Cool dude after things settle down here, helping clear out the home of late sister & B-in-L and have a trip with trailer load of house hold stuff to take to MI in the next couple of weeks, I just may take you up on some "sea stories" and general ramblings.

Now for the not so great news, the parts dept screwed up and did not order the hose from turbo to CAC. The owner got involved somehow and I just eased on off to home, let me say I fully expect to go back today and find someone in the parts dept no longer employed. Know the guy most of his life and never seen him that upset. I was wondering if this kind of thing has been happening a lot lately, must be if he is that upset. Before I left I told the tech to not worry about it, that I am retired and can bring it in anytime. I think he was worried that they would shift the work to someone else while he is out for some minor surgery starting today for about 10 days and would lose the income.
