The wrangler "Tomb Raider" edition comes with some flat, oval shaped offroad lights....

Image

Does anyone one know who makes them and if they are worth a crap? I've always been hisitant about using non-round offroad lights and was pretty set on Hella 500s. If anyone knows anything about these, how bright they are, how far they reach, etc... I would be greatly appreciative.

thanks for posting the link, I fixed it in my post as well.

Any opinions on these? They say 55w, so not sure hoe bright they would be.

Too bad the ones you can buy don't look as hot as the one on angelina's jeep. They are def. ff50s in any case. That's what I plan on putting on my rack whenever I can get it built.

this is my roof rack I built...

Image

I was thinking of putting them UNDER the rookrack so they hang down right in the front. That should keep them safe and still shine out over the roofline.

Somebody was selling a brand-new sealed set on ebay for $25. I baught them to test out, but i'm leery. When you find a price that low for something that should cost $80ish, it's usualy bad news.

I got the first of set in. 6 of these will fit across the front of my rack. I was planning on getting 2 sets driving lights for distance and 1 set of fogs for width. I think I'm changing that though. I was going to set them up like... "DFDDFD"

I can't find any cheap fog versions where as I can find the driving version for like $25/pair on EBay.

I think what I'm going to do is just use 6 driving and angle the 2 outermost ones a bit to the sides, and maybe a point them down a bit, so they cover the same area the fogs would. I'll still have 4 pointing straight ahead for uberlight.

I got a 3-prong weatherproof plug at PepBoys for easy disconnect so I can take the rack off. The ground is supplied by the rack itself, so I only need a plug for the hot wires. I hooked the switch/relay up to the dash lights. That way I can have them on any time the parking lights, lows, or highs are on.

here's a couple pics of the first set...

Think it will get wide enough dispersion without fogs lights?

Wow! Looks very good with the roof basket!
Great pictures!
I would just have one concern with the mounting. How hot will that row of lights get being so close to the paint job?
Could you run into problems of slight discoloration of the paint if that row of lights gets temperature toasty when being on for prolonged periods?
Maybe not an issue, but worth mentioning.
Thanks for sharing the photos!

y'know, I never thought of that before. They sit about 1.5" above the roof, which is sloping downward at that point. I suppose if I was stationary with them on for a while, they could build up some heat.

Another plan down the road though is to herculine to roof, so who knows :P
