OMG!!! this is getting crazy... up to $6 a gal??!!

ok I bought my CRD so i could run B100. Here is the short break down...

50 gal water heater from Lowes = $200
55 gal whit plastic drums from the local carwashes = FREE
1/2 HP Ele Pump $24
Pipe and other misc parts to bulid the "Appleseed" $100

55 Gal Drum of Meth = $2.05 Gal = 112.75
50 LBS bag of LYE = $40.00

now a few side notes.. Meth will make 8, 35 gal batches - 50 lbs of lye will make 25, 35 gal batches

after all said and done my COST PER GAL.........

.43 CENTS PER GAL thats $8.60 to fill-er-up

you would be shocked on how many food places just toss the oil in the trash can out back...

as far as MPH goes im running around 25mpg... and ive got a heavy foot...

skywarn- You would probably be interested in the St Louis Biofuels Club Yahoo Group. There is lots of in-depth discussions of biodiesel production and enhancements for better, more consistent fuel. Several members are also working on consistent methods for methanol recovery, as that is largest-dollar consumable in the process and recycling it could save much of your costs. Sign up here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/biodieselstl/.

I, too, bought my CRD for biodiesel use and am working on getting my garage "factory" built.

I was a home-brew doubting-thomas (but definitely running into runninng 100% BioD), but $.43 a gallon is a strong incentive to try a DIY bit of brewing. But an oil analysis would be a better argument, check out that thread and see if you'd be into testing that old engine oil. If there is a lot of left over glycerine or gunk in your homebrew, the oil analysis should show some serious iron as the hard-to-burn bits glaze the chamber and increase wear. This is what discouraged me from a SVO kit (even though they have a nice, slick invisable option at http://www.goldenfuelsystems.com/Jeep%20Liberty.html).

If your oil turns out OK, I'll pour homebrew in mine. I have plenty around, but I use it in the furnace and pay quite a bit for commercial grade stuff for the Jeep. Still waiting on my oil analysis for the next change at 18k miles. You show me your and I'll show you mine..

I am just starting a small group ( had first meeting last Thursday Night ) that is going to build an Appleseed Processor and Wash System to produce our our BioDiesel. You can "brew" up to 400 gallons every three months without having to pay any kind of fuel tax. We have 7 members and are going to split the cost/work load and have some fun to boot.

Objectives...Safety First...Produce VERY CLEAN BioDiesel...Have found a buyer for our By-products...Use Solar Power Heat Boxes to preprocess our raw Oil (evaporate as much water before processsing begins)...going to run the Appleseed off of a Diesel Powered Generator using our own Bio of course. Going to be a little work up front but we think it will pay big dividends.

Was just quoted $3.01 per gallon out the door for B100 from a distributor in Lansing, OH. Going to drop off 2 drums tomorrow for them to fill up as so to run a B20 blend in my CRD.

I just topped off my tank (10gal) last weekend with BP's B99 with the 10 already in the tank being Citgo ULSD premier. I paid $2.99 for the B99. I just this morning filled it back up and the mileage was my record high of 24.5 mpg, and that was hand calculated!!! I guess the B99 here is good stuff, or the combo I was running all week worked well. None of my driving was highway miles either, all short 10-20 mile trips on country roads. Hope it keeps working like this, might be worth the 30mile drive to get the B99. I can get B20 locally, but mileage wasn't anything like this. Just my little tid-bit. :)

Picked up a 55 gal drum of B100 from Carson Dist. in Lansing, OH for $2.84 a gal. Plan on cutting it to a B10. What are others paying for B100?

$2.84/gal, what are you complaining about? I paid $3.50/gal last week at Salem Oil Co. I only got a one 5 gal can filled for the garage because I can buy B20 from a station near work for the same price as regular D2 in the area.
