Well.. Normally I don't let the KJ get down to low but with all my running around and being busy I noticed that it was on E and then the light came on.. So I stopped at the station to gas up.. When the pump hit $35 it stopped.. I know the tank wasn't full yet.. So I asked the person inside.. She said they have a limit on how much gas one can pump at a time..

Has anyone else heard of this? I was paying at the pump.. Why would they limit that?

Just wondering,

Ben

probably a creditcard thing.

When you use a CC to buy gas, it pends $1.00 to the card for approval, then later sends the full amount when you are done pumping. Probably trying to limittheir losses from people that have $2.37 left on the CC and charge $75 gas.

I've got a 2004 with the 19.5 gallon tank. I usually put in $46, but I like to run it down pretty low. I usually go 40-60 miles after the light comes on (and stays on, it goes off at first depending on the angle of the hill).

The reason why stations have limits like that is to limit the amount of gas you can steal. It may just be store policy, or they mave have had a problem with gas thieves.

Yea with the price of gas everywhere now deep into the $2 area hanging on the edge of $3 for regular, gas stations are probably doing that to help cut down on pump-n-runners...it sux...but if you use Costco or Sam's gas you won't have to worry about that since you have to have a membership and they trust you once you swipe that membership card...at least i've noticed that here in memphis...

Gas stations around here usually pre-authorize for $75 or make you pay inside if they can't block that amount on the card...

I live in MI.

I filled up two weeks ago for $62 in one shot. yeah and it was a total of 21.5 gal in my KJ ?! Some one want to explain that one to me?

I used to be a driver and back then it would stop at $50 due to a limit on the card and not the gas station.

I believe this problem is a result of each individual card companies policy on Gas purchases. I have never had my gas stop early on my personnal card.

Wow. I've got the 19.5 gallon tank, and never put more than 16.5 in it, and that's running it 40 to 60 miles after my EVIC says 0 til empty. The 05's have a 20.5 gallon tank...no way you could have put in 21.5. It was probably a calibration error, hopefully they weren't scamming you. I'd bring it to their attention, and if it happened again I'd call DOT, or whoever polices them. There's a number on our pumps down here to call if you suspect you are being over charged.

I haven't paid over $2.999 since September '05. It all depends on the area. There are some places around here who want outrageous prices though.

Same here i think paying 3.14 a gallon in some gas stations is super cheap in joliet and crest hill. Most surrounding towns average 3.30 a gallon.
