Should they have any lateral play in them, or should they be static?

Explain alittle more what you mean by lateral. If you take the spindle off they should haves tons of play in them. I think the only thing holding it in then is the boot. But just going out and laying under the jeep and pushing them side to side, Im not to sure.

I'm talking about just laying under the Jeep pushing them side to side...got a little bit of play.

Just went out and checked mine and I have play. Id say its around an 1/8in of play, maybe less than that. I would love to take those boots off and clean them all up and repack it all with grease. I just dont like this lifetime grease thing.

Noticed the same thing last night while under my KJ. The thought of damage crossed my mind but glad it seems normal for the rest of you as well.

The thing that would not be normal would be if you took the knuckle off, and the shaft fell out of the Diff housing. Then the clip/snap ring has broken off, and it needs to be fished out and then replaced.

I do not believe the front dana 30a has c-clips. Mine moves in and out alot with the spindle off. I believe they just fall out.
