Anyone who used my mudflap spacer Idea and lost a spring...Sorry

DON'T do it !!!

Extra Isolators.....DON't Do it.

If you are doing it and ain't lost a spring YET...Its because you ain't flexing to the max or don't have longer shocks in the rear, or your tire ain't dropped off the edge of the bottomless.

This is my official retraction.

What do you mean? Making a spacer from a mudflap and putting overtop the spring? How would that make you loose one? People do that all the time and Ive never seen a spring fall out. That was with the extra spacer though, not a mudflap.

You have to get in there and check it out. You'll see why. Thats why the daystars have the extended spring retainer. You won't get that with the stock iso stack or mudflap.

So did you lose a spring, I take it? Any permenant damage (shock, shock mount, etc), or were you able to get the spring back in there?

I plead the 5th. I put the therory into practical application and did some Precision measurements. Again, I'm sorry.

I don't believe in "permenant damage"

The test vehicle sustained no permenant damage.

The longer shock everyone is using now is the Dodge Dakota which still tops out. I wonder if you can use the part# for the lifted dakota??? It would probably bottom out on one side before bump stopping though.

My OME rear shocks are as long as the stock shocks. Looking at the rear suspension, I do not want it flexing anymore than these shocks allow it. It puts alot of stress on things when it flexes more than these shocks allow it.

The ome shocks do not let the springs loosen up when fully flexed. Your idea would work fine with my shocks the1jferg, I now understand what you are talking about. Why couldnt you put it over the springs and not under?

I have 2 extra rear spring isolators on top of my Rusty's coil lift and it works great. The shocks are the perfect length to keep the spring in there, it is a little loose at max flex but not going anywhere.

"It puts alot of stress on things when it flexes more than these shocks allow it."

Jeepster, it can't flex anymore than the stock shocks allow it (bottom or top)???

If you add the longer shocks, it will flex all the way to bumpstop (with 30" tires or less) and it ain't stressing nothing except maybe a little more pressure on the sway bar.

If I did not have the daystar spacers with that extra spring neck, I could reach in there and snatch it out. The only other way (I) can avoid that spring popping would be with longer springs like Edwin with absolutly NO spacers or extra ISO's. If I added longer bumpstops, shorter shocks, or larger tires...It would hurt (MY) flex.

I ain't sure of these other guy's configurations.
