My wife and I bought our 05 Liberty Renegade just over (1) year ago and haven't had any problems with it at all. We really wanted a CRD in the worst way, but decided the $5,000 Premium just wasn't worth it at the time.

Now, my local dealer has a used 05 CRD sitting on their lot. It has 32k miles on it and they are asking $21,498 for it.

Our Renegade Edition has just over 10k miles on it and owe around $20k.

What to do ? What to do ?

Ideas ?? :D

I think an 05 with 32k miles is alot of miles. My 04 only has 21k on it. I would not give that much money for a jeep with that many miles on it. You owe 20k on yours, but what can you get out of it? If you can get what you want, then Id say go for it!

Yea, I know it's a bunch of miles. :( Our 05 is on the low-end for sure.

I'm not sure what my Lib will bring in Resale/Trade yet. Ideas ?

Hi, I just paid a little over 18k for a used 05 CRD with 25kish miles, pretty much bone stock. There were only two in my area for sale, so the pickings are a little slim.

I personally think the CRD will retain a much higher resale value so the delta between what your Renny is worth now and what the CRD is worth will grow. That being said, I think you could find a bone stock new CRD brand new that with current purchase incentives you could get for around $23K and get full warranty. It seems to me that fewer of the '06's are experiencing problems.

You might want to post this over on the CRD forum since a lot of us over there don't visit the other forums. One other note, although I helped my daughter buy a '97 Wrangler, drove it some and rode in it a lot, I am not a Jeep guy. I would not be a Jeep guy without the CRD and may not be again, but if I could afford to buy a second CRD to park somewhere for 200/300K miles and have at the ready for when I have worn this one out I would.

I see that you have an '05 RME...those were limited in production (only 2 years) and even limited in the Inferno Red Color (mine was Inferno Red and was totalled so that is one less then there was) so the resale value on those should be great. I know that the resale value insurance gave me for the total loss of mine was over 21K very close to 22K and it wasn't a year old yet.

I have a habit of trading in cars pretty often. The first thing to say is that it rarely makes financial sense (yet I do it for some reason). Check out edmunds, kbb, and nada BEFORE going into the dealership. The neat thing about your sitiation is that you are trading kj for kj. Thus if they try to low ball your trade (yah know these things just don't hold their value, or a similar line), agree with them and drop your offer on the CRD

It's a diesel, I wouldn't worry about the mileage. When I'm looking for a new work truck I don't look at anything with less than 50k. Diesel's need to be broken in.

I think that sounds kind of high for the mileage. I bought a brand new CRD back in March for 22,000 out the door -- of course, I may have gotten a good deal because it was the only new 2005 still on their lot. (plus the diesel demand isn't really high in this area)

I would have to personally say to hold off. The CRD was only made for 2 years, and is now discontinued. That makes it a rare vehicle, which can only mean bad things as it ages. They discontinued it because it doesn't meet standards, so they are redesigning the engine for the GC, and I assume that will be backported to the liberty and wrangler in the future. We might only be a few years away from the next generation diesel, so why not just wait for it to come out?

Besides, renegades rock!

You'll take a major bath on the trade-in vehicle, especially with the miles. Any time you trade in a vehicle that's only a year or two off you take a financial hit. Stay with the one you have.
