I knew a guy that had a pickup with an 11' camper. The pull out bumper for it was not a good place to pull the 4 horse trailer from so his solid shaft drawbar was about 24" long and did a great job. He used it without the camper too as the extra length dramatically changed the pivot point and gave him a lot more control in backing.

One thing you all must consider in towing without an extra length drawbar. You may be able to sneak the trailer on to a shorter one but what looks ok when the tow rig and trailer are in a straight line on the flat may not be got to heck in a sharp turn or even an abrupt driveway dip. All of a sudden those close clearences evaporate and you get the rig and the hitch all tangled up with bad results.

Had the same experience. For my utility trailer I hook it up with the door open, works great, door opens full, the trailer has a long tongue. You can also get a hitch extension, or a drop hitch.

I've heard that extensions cut the weigt limit trailor and tongue in half. Get the longer one and not an extension!

I've heard that too, but I don't see the difference. If the overall length from the receiver to the ball is the same, you'll have the same leverage either way. Maybe the extension is the weak link?

The extension is not the weak link. The farther away the load is applied (tongue weight on the ball of the drawbar) from the receiver hitch, the more bending moment is created at the mounting bolts of the receiver hitch to the unibody.

etrailer.com has great prices on the longer draw bar

the true measurement for a ball hitch is from hole to hole, so the minimum needed to pass the spare tire is 12"...the picture with the ball hitch and ruler is WRONG, needs to be from hole to hole....

By looking at the ruler you can tell the measurements from hole to hole, that is why I put the ruler
there, either way you should have an idea of the length of what you need. The ruler starts and runs
from beginiing to end, a little math and you have the hole to hole.

I'm just not sure what to think of that thing. It looks strange compared to what I'm used to - what's the rated tow capacity of it? Looks like it would bend to one side or the other under heavy braking and/or an emergency stop... :?

That sucks to have to do 80km per hour, ussually when I trailer I am doing 110km per hour just keeping up with traffic. I haven't been able to find a trailer hitch yet that is long enough to clear the spare tire???

Mine does. 225 euros and all bolt on. Was delivered to the door at work. was soooo easy to install. it has a 22mm ball and I think that is a 2" in SAE.
