I made the same complaint with the DC rep. and was told this is not fixable. There is an issue with the shape of the pan and the location of the pick-up tube in the pan. Point the nose of your Jeep downhill and the tranny fluid runs to the front of the pan leaving the pick-up tube sucking air and oil starving the clutch pack. The only way you can move is with gravity (downhill/forward). They recommended maneuvering such that you don't have to back uphill.
I have to say that is a ridiculous answer by the DC guy. You should get it in writing. That fact in itself would be enough for a lemon law return for ALL CRDs if true.
However, in my work I often am working in rural areas and park on inclines without problem. So, I don't know if it is just a problem for you, or for all. If I could not park at a certain angle I would have to get rid of vehicle as there are many times I position the vehicle that I can only either back up, or go forward, but not do both inorder to get out.
Definately surprised this problem hasn't drawn more attention. This problem is not CRD specific as it's common to everthing using this transmission. Can't even recall the number of times I had to back a pick-up truck uphill with a heavy load in the bed. Would think this would show up quickly in a Ram pick-up just by how they get used. Interesting that when it happens the whole Jeep shakes & shudders and just won't move.
Should mention that it's not as common since the filter TSB was done. Have a feeling there is more to it than just the angle of the vehicle. The pick-up tube is part of the main transmission filter assy and may have a seal problem where it ports into the transmission. Changed the filters and the problem appeared to go away. A lot of tranny quirks went away when the filter TSB was done.
