That concept is the first for jeep's "entry level" vehicle, it is not supposed to be a traditional jeep........sigh

5.7 HEMI in a KJ = domination of the trails! With that engine, we dont need no stinkin 4.5" lifts or 33's...we can just drive through the rocks! :-)r

I wish Jeep would stick to what it does best, rather than appealing to the "trendy" audience with that Compass. That's Honda's job. But the other concepts...great. I <3 the Rescue.

The front/rear axel placement on the Rescue reminds me of the "Warthog" from HALO! 8)

If the Patriot isn't replacing the Liberty, then what is Jeep going to do with two vehicle models that are virtually identical in size and look?

I agree completley. And if the Patriot is going to look like a Cherokee then why did they stop producing it. DC needs to get there head out of there 2 points of contact (butt ).

Well Before they do that they need two things......A stronger bumper...Rocks don't like plastic..and stronger front diff to handle the added torque....may i suggest a factory installed SFA that would cure the any issues. Then we can lift it just to make it easier on the rocks....

All the things I had read previously on the Compass and Patriot led me to believe that neither one was going to be "trail rated". The things I read said they would probably have an all wheel drive option but otherwise would just be front wheel drive. If I recall, that info was from Mike's Totally Free Jeep News.

already been done... sorta
The British made Perkins 192 diesel I4 was optional in the CJ-5 and CJ-6 from 1961 until 1965. It uses a cast iron block and cylinder head with mechanical lifters and 3 main bearings.

how about a chrome KJ?

One point I was trying to make earlier was that the drawing (or artist rendering) doesn't have the same profile as what has been seen in the Compass spy shots. Look for yourself:

Compass Drawing

Compass Spy Shots

The spy shots have a slightly more upright look while the drawing looks like a current neon with a jeep grill. Either way the compass is obviously not a trail ready jeep and is obviously not a replacement to the KJ.

I’m interested in getting more specifications on Patriot. Looks all right, but I also doubt this is a Liberty replacement. My "guess" is that the Patriot will have less towing because of its (dodge caliber) car frame, and it will be even more directed towards CRV/RAV-4 buyers than Liberty is. I would also expect less off-road capability and more mpg in the Patriot. Basically, I'm thinking Patriot will be more of a 4wd mini-van like Liberty's supposed competitors.

Also really liked the Rescue concept. I might add that Rescue is not a concept anymore. The TKL that is coming is more or less the Rescue. :D

The next Liberty is supposed to be a little bigger. When I got the first Liberty I thought they were on the small side. On Liberty number 2 and like the size. Love the CRD! They are supposed to have a diesel PT cruiser out soon that would be good for the wife.

Stumbled across the Compass today on the net and then found this post.

When Jeep debuted the Compass 3 years ago it was supposed to be built on a Liberty frame. But I have read that it's now going to be built on a Mitsubishi Lancer frame.

Edmunds has this to say "Unlike most Jeeps, the Compass won't be built for hard-core off-roading. Designed to compete with the likes of Ford's Escape and the Honda CR-V, the all-wheel-drive system in the Compass will be more an all-weather system with no low-range gearing. Power will come from a range of four-cylinder engines..."

Sounds to me like the Liberty is safe.

If the Compass is not going to be built for hard-core off-roading and built on a Mitsubishi Lancer frame, Then why build it? I don't think it should have Jeep any where on it. If they build it on a Mitsubishi frame they should give it a Mitsubishi name and not drag Jeeps name in the mud........
