I'd go for the Donaldson air filter, but I think I'll pass on the snorkel. Last time I was involved with anything that had a snorkel installed on it, it was way too much work for my tastes! :roll:

Next thing, someone will be telling me I need to station the Manuvering Watch to pull out of my parking space. :?

Well since we're back to picking nits (so much for honest apologies).......The turbocharger is increasing torque and therefore horsepower is as a consequence increased but the turbo (or any other forced air induction system) is making torque. Just because torque is tied in an algebraic relation to horsepower doesn't mean something that creates one (torque) creates the other (horsepower). The increase in horsepower is simply a calculated byproduct or function of how much torque there is available at a given RPM.

Okay, my nits have all been picked this morning....I'm off to enjoy a beautiful day. :)

You are too much. There are no circumstances when adding a Turbo that that torque and horsepower do not increase together. It is true that without torque there is NO HORSEPOWER in any circumstance but to say that the Turbo is not increasing Horsepower is just plain silly. The inverse is also true: Without Horsepower there is no Torque. They are both a function of each other. When you increase torque...you at the same time increase horsepower. One can not happen without the other.

Anyway, you have to figure Volume Efficiency of an engine to calculate CFM. The Turbo will be a big factor in that calculation. Normal street vehicles range from 65%-85% VE. A race prepared vehicle can achieve 100% and a little more.

CFM=(CIxRPMxVE%)/3456

Liter to Cubic Inch conversion is Literx61.02=Cubic Inches

2.8Lx61.02=170.86

VE% is probably in the range of 105% (Forced Induction usually achieves higher than 100%)

CFM=(170.86x4000x105%)/3456

Guys, I could be wrong on this but the calculation looks like one from a gasser where the air fuel ratio is held within a fairly tight window. Turbo diesels push a lot more air and run at a lot higher A/F ratios so this formula may not be all that accurate. I reserve the right to be proven 100% wrong on this so take it with a grain of salt :D

CFM=207.65
If you add exhaust/diesel module/ect the VE% will increase.

A 3.7L needs close to 284CFM . RPM and CI was a big difference. From these calculations and the fact that our air filter and box are equal to the 3.7L...I think we have plenty of filter...just a guess.

I really don't like the fact that you placed your answer as part of my quote (made your reply BOLD) only because it makes it confusing. The formula does work for gassers/diesels/turbos/ect. The big variable is the VE%. A Turbo and/or Air to Fuel Ratio allow an engine to achieve more than 100% VE. Actually normally aspirated gassers can also achieve 100%+ VE (race engines/ect.). My guess at 105%VE for the KJ might be low...I don't know. If we could find out the exact VE% we could plug it in the equation. That being said, the diesel would have to have a VE% of ~150% to need a bigger air filter than the 3.7L.

My bad :oops:

I just started typing in the wrong place! I tried looking on the Garrett site to see if there was a flow vs pressure chart but it got a little confusing and I also did not know the model of turbo on our rigs.

Looks like they are definitely working on it...we will just have to get a new location for our antenae...maybe we could get the side glass with the antenae built in.

I have been keeping in contact with Gibson RM and they should be ready to ship in 14 days or so. I also have emailed Dirk at www.dpgoffraod.com to see if there could be a possible group buy. Dirk is the only distributor in the USA. Details later!

Dear Wally

We are about 14 days away from starting production.
There is a US distributor DPG off road ( http://www.dpgoffroad.com/)
I will pass your details on to DPG to get in contact with you.
The snorkel will come with a 3 1/2" air ram and will also have the option of a new air cleaner system.
It will also be avaliable in selected colours
Hope this helps

I'm thinking that would be a great way to wash the road salt from the chassis after a long winter.

Has anyone verified that the snorkel works with the CRD? I would think the gasser would be a much bigger market.

**Edit to add**
Ok, I read the actual link...

I placed my order for a snorkel today should be here by first week in November or so iv been told?

I use a V6 K&N air filter in my CRD 2004 so that part should be the same, I do know that there were changes made to the air in take position on the CRDs from 2002/3 to 2004 dew to it sucking in sand kicked up by the front wheels. I have seen a change between 2004 and 2005/6 CRDs so this is guess work till we all have them in hand. It looks as if all the changes have been done to the air intake part of the air intake box so if it dont fit my 2004 ill just get the correct part of the air box for the appropriate "year" so it works. Hell we mad enough to lift our KJ Jeeps 2 to 3"s im sure we can make this one work a well. :lol:

I'm looking forward to this upgrade, it looks good on the web site. :D :D :D

Well I have talked with Mike at GibsonRm a few times in Australia and they are almost ready for production. With production time, packaging and shipping it will be around mid November for delivery. The XJ one costs around $275.00...the KJ one is expected to be in the $350.00 range. I talked extensively with Mike about technical issues concerning low pressure zones ect. and he knows his stuff. They are working on a new double parabolic hood that should work even better. I also put them in contact with AllJProducts.com . Might not be a bad idea to contact Heather/Quinn to let them know IF you are SERIOUSLY INTERESTED in getting one. They would have to buy a whole crate to get the deal. Mike thinks that 70-80 would fit in an overseas crate...just enuff for L.O.S.T.

HI DarbyWalters

It sure looks like a great product they have,

I just have one question if you dont mind explaining what a "double parabolic hood" is? i did try to find some info on the net but did not come up with much, it would be much appreciated thanks.

Just the shape of the "hat"...the "scoop" if you will. Mike is looking for a more positive airflow...
