Finally got my new Soft 8's mounted, I was worried about how the black/white combo would look but I think it turned out nice.

They gave me a bit wider stance too.

Here's my reason for ditching the stockers:
Image
I slid a little sideways trying to go up a ledge, and the wheel caught a bit of rock just right.

I think this will be the last of the mods for my KJ though. I'm reclassing from the Seabees to the nuclear field (hopefully machinist's mate) which means tons of enlistment bonuses courtesy of the U.S. Navy and hardworking taxpayers such as yourselves (thanks by the way ). I'm thinking about a Rubi, although I don't know how much time I'll get to spend wheeling it or wrenching on it.

Nice wheels. Your KJ has the "storm trooper" look.

Nice wheels Steve. Did you keep the stock ones. Hey if you get rid of the KJ let me know so I can have first dibs on the rails and wheels if you part them out.

Will do. It'll probably be at least a year though. I've still got the 4 wheels that weren't trashed, but I think I'm gonna sell 'em on ebay or something so they won't be taking up space in my parent's garage.

Thank YOU for serving our country. You don't have to get a Rubi to have a great Jeep. But if that's what you want, it's the least we can do for your service.

The black rims look great on that white truck!

Thanks man.

I know the KJ's a great Jeep, and I still love mine, but I want to be able to take the top and doors off (without a sawzall). Plus, I want to go bigger, and the TJ's aftermarket is huge. Since I'll be single and childless (God I hope so anyway ) practicality is pretty much a nonissue.

When do you ship out. I think I can peal a Sunday off around the 23rd or 24th whichever is Sunday. If you want to try and make a KS Rocks run.

I'll be in NC visiting family the 22nd-24th, but If you can get time after that just let me know. I'll just have to tell my boss I have to meet with my recruiters... y'know, Navy business 8)

I'm scheduled for March but I've got paperwork in that'll let me leave as soon as someone else gets DQ'd, so I'll have between 1 and 4 weeks notice. Chief said he could all but guarantee I'd be gone by Thanksgiving, but I don't want to get my hopes up only to find out I won't leave early.

What part of NC are you coming too? There are a few of us in NC and a few more (like myself) that are about 12 miles from the border. Let us know if you get any free time to go wheelin' while you're over this way.

I'll be in Rocky Mount with my grandparents. It's about an hour east of Raleigh. Unfortunately I won't have the KJ, otherwise I'd definitely take you up on your offer. Thanks though.
