I am kind of afraid I will leave the dealership with more troubles than I brought it in with(which is none )

Nope, read the TSB. If you had it done AFTER July 14, you should have gotten the correct version. Might want to check before taking it back in.

ts on the list i checked jeeps website.

You know, now that I think about it my Liberty is improperly programmed, or at least DC is, for a lot of aftermarket products. Where is the recall for the 3" lift or a high performance chip? Where is the recall for the 32" tires?

So I still wonder why this one is a recall and not just another TSB. Recalls are reserved for serious driveability issues not aftermarket product compatibility.

EXACTLY! And for those of us that got a reflash for both the ECM and TCM, why are they just reflashing the TCM????? Now will there be an incompatability issue? An emissions recall that only reprograms the transmission control module - it just stinks...

I know of at least one case where exactly the opposite happened. I had the 18-009-06 done and my TC still failed in a rather dramatic fashion a few weeks later. It grenaded while driving to work and ultimately locked up in an intersection. Didn't seem to help with longevity.

I suppose if I never received the two previous TSB's, then I would not be a candidate for F31. Since my TC and "new redesigned" trans pump are on back order, I'll find out once work starts on my repair.

I believe that one also addresses the problem with the heat guage showing a high temperature incorrectly.

They are probably going to perform TSB # 18-023-06 for this recall since that TSB is not mentioned in the recall. I mean if they have to flash it anyway, why wouldn't they just perform the TSB above which apprently is not subject to the recall. I am going to make an appointment to take mine in for 18-023-06.

I think the issue which prompted the recall is that OBD2 scanners are supposed to work on any U.S. vehicle after 96 by federal law. DC knows their dealers won't do TSBs half the time so they made it a recall to make sure it got done before they get some kind of EPA fines over it.

A good way to confirm this would be to take it in for the recall and ask them if they do 18-023-06 as part of the recall.

what gets me is the choice of inadvertently.

inadvertently means unwittingly: without knowledge or intention

The TSB's were very much done with knowledge and attention.

What a bunch of CYA, bean counter aholes!

I agree with your interpretation, that DCX changed something in the TCM that did not allow aftermarket community to adequately, if at all, read the ODBII diagnotstic codes. So, they have had to issue a recall of the update, or modifiy the TCM flash, so that they allow ODBII codes to be read by aftermarket equipment standards.

What really stinks in the whole situation is that DC knows better. How many vehicles have they built and sold in the US since 1996? This vehicle is the only one to have this problem??? It's a stong clue that this was no accident or even a simple oversight, they knew it all along. I mentioned this in another thread, the working parameters of this software is highly adjustable. Personally believe they are masking ECM/TCM malfunction codes, hiding historic codes by controlling access to the software.

Never mind after market tools, their own tools don't work either after these 2 TSB flashes,
On Mine they tried to program TSB # 3 in there and the TCM went silent somewhere in the middle of it all.
Their programming tool did not regocnize the TCM after that and had to be replaced.

The original problem I brought it in for, the studder after stepping on pedal real good and let it sit at let's say 55MPH.....Is still there.

Well, I just contacted the service Director at my dealer where I purchased my CRD. I am going in next Thursday the 24th to have the 7.14 TSB done for the ECM and TCM...which apparently will also resolve the recall issue as well. I told him that I have "bucking at 35mph and then more bucking between 50-55mph". I also have shaking above 65 throttle or no so I think the wheels need to be balanced. We talked quite a bit and he agreed that doing this TSB will make both of us happy.

Who knows...maybe this recall is DC way of forcing us to update our TCM software so they can save money on having to replace demolished TCs. They would simply put out a temp fix...build in a flaw...which would force them to make a recall...which would force us to update our TCM software...which in turn will save them money if it truly increases the durability of the TC as the TSB states.

Got the TSB # 18-023-06 done yesterday. I have a 06 CRD build date 5-15-06. Had the trany shutter a couple of times in 2000 miles Now the CRD is more responsive. Seems to have less turbo lag and shifts smoother. CRD went in for warranty on the washer bottle being cracked and leaking. No questions asked when I asked for the TSB to be done.

I had the F-31 recall done today. TFor the recall they reprogramed the TCM. They also did the ECM portion of TSB# 18-023-06. I assume they skipped the TCM portion of the TSB because the recall addressed that. Does this sound right?

That is what I was thinking they would do. Kind of a forced recall to save them money from having to replace burned up torque converters. Force the customer to come in and have their ECM and TCM reflashed....since the TSB does say "do it if the vehicle is in for service". Doesn't require any parts...just the postage to mail the recall letters.

Did you get the F31 done today? Notice any difference in the shifting pattern or power levels?
I got it done and cannot discern any difference.

I just took mine back for this recall, I also had my fuel economy drop to 20 MPG highway, and it went into some kind of limp mode, engine idled no throttle responce. From what the dealer implied thses could all be related to bad software. I will see when I get it back.

The nagging little problems are starting to make think it may be time to cut my losses. Hopefully they get it right as nothing else out there offers the versatility of the CRD. ...... And if the oil companies would quit screwing with us! At 40 cents a gallon difference between gas and deisel it is considerably cheaper to drive the wifes Mercury Sable everyday.

Well, my guess is that the prices will go up even further as demand for heating oil is going to kick in over the next couple of months.
