It's too bad we have to keep a 2cd car around. I know for a fact anytime I go start my 83 Mercedes Benz 240D up it will purr like a kitten. Even though my CRD has not caused me any problems, I would trust the tried and true Mercedes OM616 engine over any computer controled diesel or gas engine. There are no ECU's to fail. I love my jeep but I cannot see it running as good as my 240D is now in 2029.
Which I had kept my '83 240D. :(

Hello All

Well this is my first post on this forum, it has been very good reading and seeing that we are not the only ones out here in south africa with a few problems with our kj's.

We find it very difficult to get any answers to the problems we have with our jeeps but we still love them!

I'd like to know what EGR is? The reason i ask is i see you all talk of it and it seems to have some connection to the levels in the diesel fuel. Up till the and of 2005 we had levels of up to 2000ppm depending on were you got it now its down to 500ppm and there are two that are "ULSD" at 50ppm this ULSD we cost you about R7.20 a liter about $1.10,

We have had CRD's for about 5 or 6 years now and seem to run ok apart from the auto's TC.

Thanks.

If you PM me with e-mail address, I can send you a graphical on the EGR and it's relationship to the engine in controlling emissions. The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) is designed to allow for less pollutants of the ignition fuel byproducts.
It's interesting that you note that TC's are also failing with auto's on the export models. We in the states are envious of the export models manual option. Any information on what is the culprit of the TC failures on exports? Early information just being released "unofficially" is that the automatic transmission pump has been redesigned.
I'm getting one of those supposedly this week.
Cheers!

Remember age and cunning will always over come youth and vigor. :P

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, favorite drink in hand, body thoroughly used up, and screaming, "WOO HOO, what a ride!"

Why sure, I am not the author. But I have used it for a couple of years as signature for email. Wish I could remember where I came across the statement.
