I hear you...but what if my vehicle was down in the middle of an install? Some type of backup would be nice.

What I would do if they were not there, is get some pictures, if applicable, and post here on lost. That would be my backup, but honestly, I used the instructions on the 4WD&SUV mag, and had no problems, and this was my first lift.

Plus, since the OP was looking to order, when he got the lift, it would be after they get back, and would probalby be good for a while until they "vacation" again. 8)

Does anyone know just how much more the CRD weighs than the gas vehicle? What about the arb bumper.
It seems like an arb with a winch stuck way out in front would have to be comparable in added stress to the CRD.
Either way I guess I'll get some real world experience in how the Rockfather holds up.

I'm sure your lift will hold up fine as it's coils and a spacer. I'm hoping you keep us all updated as to how it goes. I know nothing of their "custom springs" so you may be discovering a new, better option for the CRD. Notice, I don't have either the Frankenlift or the Rockfather II - just a mild Daystar for now. I know people have compared factory overall dry weight of a CRD vs gas Liberty, but I would like a hard number on is how much more weight on the front wheels of the CRD vs. front wheels of the gas Liberty....

I'm just posting because I have seen 2 cases since last September of people trying the HD OME coils in the front (and only the coils) on a CRD and it did not work, so I did not want you to have to spend that kind of money and effort on something that would sag...

I know the folks that make the Frankenlift tried the OME HD coils up front on a CRD with top strut plate spacers as well, but the coils were allowing too much bouncing and other weird motions - just wasn't a good match of spring rate once they got the rig in motion...

That could be, I called them for lift questions and they were out but would be back in a day. After a week went buy and while on the phone with a competitor (Rusty) I got the sales pitch of:
Quote:
Their kit is a box of mis-matched parts to gain lift while ours is custom made and will ride just as smooth if not smoother than stock.

Not jabbing the Frankinlift, thats just what they said and I am sure The Frankinlift folks could say some stuff about Rusty's. I did cave while on the phone and bought Rusty's though. Seems allot of people like the Frankinlift though. I suppose what sounded best was the long travel front struts vs the Rancho in the Frankin along with the use of no spacers and still getting 2.5" lift.

In other words, unlike the Frankenlift gas lift, which gives you 2 1/2 inches more spring (give or take) lift.

Correct me if i am wrong, I ain't bashing the franken or anything along those lines just clearing some stuff up.

The Franken uses HD OME coils on the front for gas models. Those coils give you roughly 1.5-almost 2" of lift. the extra inch to half inch is from the spacer in the strut assembly. So therefore it isn't a "true" 2.5" of spring lift. Rustys is the only one i know to offer TRUE 2.5" of spring lift with their coils.

Matt400, I can attest to the better ride given from the Rusty's coil lift. I ordered the rusty's after lots of research and user testimonies on a bunmch of tlifts and decided on theirs. I didn't need a sales pitch though.

Be sure to make your way on here with the updates of the Rockfather lift EOD-KJ when you return home.

Well, as it seems (unless I missed it) no one actually owns a Rockfather II who has posted, but I do own one, so I'll share my experience so far.

First of all, no, it does not fix the A-arm problem, at least not with my 05' Liberty Renegade. I still have contact with the springs, and am thinking about going in there with a Dremel tool and shaving a bit of metal off of the A-arm to help prevent that from happening. I have the "medium duty" springs with the gas 3.7 engine. On road, the ride is actually very nice. It handles well and soaks up the bumps in the road nicely. However, I wish I would have gotten the HD springs instead of the medium duty. Rocky Road advertises it as "stock bumper" (medium duty) and after market bumber AKA the ARB bumper, which is the heavy duty spring. My medium duty springs feel a little soft, and I don't even have the ARB bumper.

Here's something to keep in mind - Rocky Road did not design the springs, or the struts of the Rock Father II kit. Old Man Emu, a very well known and respected company did. The "thin strut spacer" is only about 3/8" thick, and is a very, very simple metal plate with holes in it that goes between the top of your spring assembly and the body of your vehicle.

Off road, this kit workes very well! I thought it rode nicely on rough trails, and took a beating. So, other than the fact I wish I had the HD springs, I like this kit a lot. I do wish it would have come as a pre-assembled strut/spring - that would have sped up installation a lot!!!! (5 hours) oops.

I have about 30,000 kilometers on my Rockfather ll. I liked it when it went on and I still like it. I've been on some rough stuff and it flexes well. I have dealt with RRO 3 times with no problems. I'd deal with them again. I don't know anything about the Frankenlift except what I've read here, so I can't add to that discussion, but I believe it's a great lift. :)

There is nothing "mismatched" about the Frankenlift The Original used parts from some of the different lifts available at the time to create a very effective offroad worthy lift. There were easily a dozen combinations tried before the original Frankenlift was born . Neither Rusty's / Rocky Roads had anything to do with them. I had the Daystar when it was the only game in town and now have the Frankenlift for the last 30K miles with not one complaint and much wheeling. Clint and Quinn tried all kinds of lifts and combinations of those lifts to get to where the Frankenlift is today.

Buy what you like but don't be fooled by the hype...The Frankenlift came 1st and the customer service is better by far in my experience.

The CRD had wieght problems that caused to much sag...you'd be better off to ask in the CRD section about that.

Good luck and keep us posted...take photos /measurements before and after. 8)

When I was shopping lifts, every maker had something to say about how all other lifts are crap and theirs is the best. AllJ's website for example says..."However, if you already have one of the "other guys" KJ lift kits, and you're calling to fix the other guys rusty, rough, broken down KJ kit....etc". It's all a sales pitch.

I just wanted to put my .02 cents in... I was the first one with a Frankenlift on a CRD.

A month before Moab I went to AllJ's and with the help of AllJ, Clint and Nolan we put a Powertrax locker, Boulderbars, Prototype AllJ skid for the CRD, and Frankenlift on my CRD. Near closing time, I took it for a test drive and found the front end making noise with too much side to side play and bouncing up and down when hitting a bump. I came back and told AllJ's and after a slight pause (it was around 7:00PM) they graciously pulled all of their tools back out and we redid the lift. Same result. Long story short, at 9:00PM, we found that the spring rate on the HD OME was not quite strong enough for the CRD's extra weight, which I hear is 300 pounds heavier than the gas. I dont know if that is true or not but while at Moab, Clint redid the lift for me to the Daystar. The drive to Moab incidentally was very nerve-racking as the CRD was handling like a pogo stick and taking corners was a white knuckle experience as I would get extreme sway. After the Daystar, everything was much better. This is my 3rd Liberty and both have had the Daystar. I've wheeled in Moab with a Liberty since 2001 and was one of first three (Me, Deserthorizons, and Alex) when we had to go with a JU group. I know nothing about the CRD Frankenlift that they have now but if my Daystar needs an upgrade this is what I m getting. Their customer service is unmatched and their products go through extreme testing before it is put out on the market. If all the lifts are equal in the end, I would go with a KJ supporter.

Just my .02 cents

Hope this helps.

Dave

Thanks for the information.
I wonder what your strut setup was on that original lift?
Aren't springs rated? Surely there is comparison data for the OEM versus OME springs as far as overall weight bearing ratings.

"We are a family owned 4WD company located in Heber City, Utah (about 40 minutes East of Salt Lake City). Our company currently has 19 employees. We manufacture and retail products for various 4WD vehicles and also operate Wasatch County Coaters, a custom powdercoating shop to serve the local community as well as our own products."

I don't know why people are talking about AllJ like theyre the ONLY family owned shop , or that hteyre the only shop that works on their OWN KJs either. Not bashing AllJ at all, but therye not the only ones.

Rustys works on their own. Rocky Road is family owned and works on their own KJ (which is awesome) ..

either way, i like rocky road, glenn has been very helpful and very good customer serivce , yes the OTT kit has been addressed , but that isnt right to give RRO a bad name becasue of that

im going to try a bunch of their products out, they have a great price and what looks like some great gear.... so ill let you all know how it turns out....and what you are all missing :p

Yeah, I don't logon to AIM much.

Waiting isn't a bad option.

Nothing gets the hive stirred up around hear like the mention of Rocky Road. I can't say that I blame them. Just go to ebay and read RRO's feedback, that will give you some idea of who/what you're dealing with.

For your next post, you should mention RockKrawler........it should elicit about the same response.

it seems if someone is an ( * ) and gives him a stupid question, hell give them a stupid answer

other than that it seems fine.... .. someone says "product came late and box torn open" which glenn replied "so were being blamed for UPS and shipping damage now?"

most people in the feedback were just commenting on slow shipping or not available parts, to which i either looked at the item or saw glenns response, and almost all were either an issue with a backorder (therefore he could NOT ship it) or it was a handmade part in their shop and they were out of stock (which makes sense)

sooooo

i dont see the problem. oh well.
