I was traveling in the rain with the defroster on when the airflow from the vents stopped. There was no flow, regardless of the fan speed. I changed the setting to the dash vents and the air started blowing again, eventually. When I returned the switch to the defroster setting the flow stopped again. I decided that the ac core must be freezing and blocking the flow of air. I've never experienced this before. During my troubleshooting I also determined that the AC clutch was engaged when the selector was on the floor vent, which as far as I can tell is not supposed to be the case. Anyone else had either of these problems.
If to '06 has the same control panel that the '05s do (and mine after the dealer replaced the defective original) then it shouldn't matter what position the vent selector is in, the A/C clutch should be controlled by the A/C button (looks like a snowflake.) The exception to this is in defrost mode when the compressor will run regardless of the a/c switch setting.
Sounds to me like you have a vacuum hose problem, as the vents are controlled by vacuum actuators.
