As said here the only one really making a killing is OPEC, oil coast about $5 a barrel to remove from the ground SA and our friends charge us $70+ a barrel. What is that about 1700% proffit margin. Most grocery stores operate on 25% proffit or use to in the 80's, not sure about today. We are supporting the people who want to kill us by buying their oil, we should use only US oil and coal liquification and see how long OPEC last getting along with rest of the world.

Erm... there's a common myth that we get a HUGE amount of oil from OPEC... but we don't. It's just spin control for these oil companies to justify their excessive prices.

For example, in 2004:

Image

And in 2005:

Image
I believe that puts us down from 43.4% in 2004 to 42% in 2005. I'd have to do some investigating...
The article I grabbed this from can be found here.

And here's the importing information for 2006. That's 40.5% OPEC oil since Dec. 2005.

While I appreciate the mistrust of OPEC, it's NOT ONLY what's driving your gas prices... the fat greedy b@st@rds in this own country that are raping you more than OPEC is...

Just makin sure we compare apples to apples here... :)

Great find. It's good to see everyone on this forum hasn't lost their mind

I think it's just a passionate issue we're discussing, and sometimes we need to keep the metrics in mind so we can speak fairly about the subject at hand. With cooler heads....

This coming from a guy who makes jokes about lynching oil execs, I know... I'm a hypocrite... LOL ;)

I'll keep actively seeking alternative fuel sources myself. I don't feel like paying for some oil mogul's new mansion or yacht... I would prefer to support the hard working folks in the midwest and their crops. :D

That or US oil workers making the fuel from our coal reserves or whatever. I just don't like my money going toward a product from a group of people who want to kill us all, and that freedom is against God will or some such.

Wow, gasoline out here is dropping like a rock in price and diesel is steadfast high. At multiple fill stations on the way home from work today gasoline is down to $2.64/gal and diesel at the same stations is at $3.19/gal. This is getting as upside down as the Katrina situation a year ago...

Only the major truck stop in town is keeping the price differential within $0.30/gallon...

Same thing happened last year about this time. That is about 12% differential between the fuels, last year in some area's it get to about 25% in cost. Here it never quite made 20% differential and only last about 6 weeks before it dropped to below gas prices.

Get used to it, the cost won't go down until the fuel conversion is done, the artifical shortage is over, and the supply is back to normal. Filled mine today with B20 for $3.09/gal. Can get rott-gut D2 for @ $2.99/gal, gas at the same station was $2.55/gal. The only good news is that I had run 315 miles since fueling and had to rock the Jeep by the roof rails to get it to take 11.5 gal. (27.4 mpg)

The differential continues at my local Speedway by work.

87 Octane Unleaded Gas = $2.499/gallon
Regular dino Diesel = $3.199/gallon

Arrrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhhh. 70 cents/gallon cheaper!!!!

Luckily my local truck stop is holding car diesel steady at $2.859/gallon.

This has really got to be screwing the trucking industry with an average of 5 to 6 mpg delivering all of our good for us - driving product costs up.

Yes that 20% to 25% differential is a killer, but it will drop again soon I hope. RUG has been in the $2.40 range here for a couple weeks, while 2D is running $2.78 at most placed.

Yep, 60-70 cent/gal differential is what I see around Cleveland. My CRD is becomming a dust collector lately as I drive my gassers.

Speedway seems to play this game. You can check around your area for pricing on www.speedway.com. I use this website to gauge competitive prices and adjust my commute if I need gas. I sometime see as much as 30 cent/gal variant in their gas prices with stations only a few miles apart. You can also see they jack their prices up uniformly on Monday or Tuesday and drop them competively closer to the weekend. Diesel at their stations must not be a competitive product, there is only 1 local station that will drop price to match the truckstop at the next exit.

Not a big fan of Speedway diesel in my CRD. Sounds like I have a crankcase full of ball bearings running their diesel and the mileage seems to drop. It runs much better when I use the B20 pump (was told the 80% dino is from BP).

It may be getting better. D2 just dropped to $2.999 from $3.199 in eastern Iowa.

Here in NH diesel is about 20c more per gallon than reg. That comes out to about 8%more. However, since I am getting 40% better mpg than my Xterra I figure I am still ahead. Diesel has dropped about 5c over the last week and I expect it will go down more until heating season kicks in.

As for screwing up trucking, partially. We tack on a fuel surcharge on the freight rate to compensate for the high diesel.

Also, slowing down a bit works. I average over 7 mpg in my semi. But then, I don't try to play billy bob big rigger and act like I'm running pole position at Daytona. To each his own, but saving over $6K a year in fuel just getting 1MPG better is worth it to me.

The effect of the electronic toys on the big diesels is truely amazing. I turned on such DDC features as cruise power, idle shutdown, and coach speed & cruise speed limiters. I loved the idle shutdown feature, just set it and wait for the phone to ring. Never failed to produce a phone call from the rest area, "my bus died." Would weed out my fuel pigs in a hurry. Always amazed when I could set the cruise at 65 and get 9.5 mpg out of a 430hp Series 60 when the clown following me (usually too close) was lucky to pull 8 mpg from an identical coach.

Diesel prices haven't changed much around here. On average, Diesel is between $2.99-$3.19 and RUG is between $2.74-$2.85.

If I drive up to baltimore to visit mom, I can get Diesel for $2.89 but their RUG is only $2.65.

I expect Diesel prices to stay higher due to ramp up of ULSD and the upcoming demand for home heating fuel.

Just outside of St Louis, diesel is at $2.76, while unleaded is at $2.36. Right now I'd be doing better if I hadn't traded my Rubicon for the CRD... I hope things balance out soon (or I finish building my garage/biodiesel processor soon).

Back in '72 when we went for a family vacation down to Florida, my father nearly ran us out of gas in the boonies looking for the cheapest gas, he thought 34 cents a gallon was a ripoff and was determined to find a station that sold it for 30 cents or less! :?

Don't obsess over the price at the pump. My father used to make a 10 mile round trip with his F150 to a neighboring town because they sold RUG for 10 cents cheaper than they did locally. He quit doing that after I pointed out that on a 20 gallon fillup he was only saving 2 bucks, and with the mileage that F150 gets he was burning up that 2 bucks just getting there and back.

By contrast, a gent at work fills up his truck with PUG. Even though it's 15 cents higher, he gets an extra 2 mpg and 50 miles off of a fillup, eliminating at least one fillup per month. By spending an extra $3 when he does fill up, he ends up coming out at least $40 ahead for the month.

I just look at it this way...

You're only striking even with the 3.7L Libertys.

Coming from one, I don't see the big deal. Now I will sit back and watch diesel prices drop.

However, 28MPG highway with B20 (not sure of Cetane rating) sure is nice compared with 22MPG of my old Liberty.

Much happier tonight, filled up with D2 for $2.48/gal, a $0.60/gal drop from what this station was selling 2 weeks ago. It took forever though as they shut off the pump twice. Finally the lady came running out to stop me from putting diesel in my Liberty.

  I love it when that happens.

I finally saw some D#2 for $2.79. However, I went to the biodiesel station, holding at $2.99 and D#2 went up one cent to $3.00 even. I don't get it. 87 Octane was $2.22

Luckily I don't need to fill up just yet.

Wish I had my digital camera this morning. I filled up our van with regular unleaded for $2.179/gallon this morning, diesel was back up to $3.199/gallon.

$1.029/gallon more than unleaded
