After the "show and shine" a local club held today, I thought I would run down to a 4wheeling spot they were all talking about and check it out. Ive been trying to find another good place to wheel ever since they close down an awesome trail we went on(Its in a place called Slade). The trail seemed to be really cool for what I could see and just couldnt stop going further and further. It started to rain alittle but I really didnt care since I was having a blast, but then it started to hail, hard. I found a tree to try and slow the hail down but it didnt help to much. The hail was around the size of marbles which isnt to bad but gosh I was scared to death, probably the more than I have ever been before. I was just thinking of my windshield cracking and seeing my hood with dents all over it. Its a really bad feeling to know you cannot do a thing in a situation like that. Anyway, I took a few pics but didnt get any of the hail. The point of this thread, do not wheel alone and check the weather before you go. I looked at a radar after I got back to my dorm and it was only a SMALL red dot that went right over me. After I got back off the trail the sun came out. I didnt get any body damage thank God and my jeep is still clean even though mud was everywhere. I couldnt even tell my tires were black on the trail, they were covered with red mud.

Sorry that some of them aren't clear:

Dont wheel alone, check the weather before going wheeling. Being in the woods during a storm is not a good idea. If a tree feel on me and killed me, no one would know where I was at or even know where to start looking. Make sense?

Whoah! Uncalled for tuff guy!

1)You took a bigger risks posing on that rock than you did on that trail.

2)Weather be damed when I go out. I dont have to worry about leaving my top at home!

3)Somehow I think we here would know something was up and we'd send out a search party for you. "Whats that KJ? Jeepster hasnt posted in 2 hours? You say a tree fell on him and he's chokin on hail? Show me the way! Good KJ!"

Generally speaking, good advice. In this particular instance, it's highly unlikely you'll ever get stuck on that trail based on what I see. The tree that would introduce you to your maker, well, that'd have to be one dang tree. Maybe killed by lightning, yeah. Or, maybe poison toads. Now we're talking.

Just kidding :) Good advice.

(yeah, and I go out to the desert in 107-degree heat, what the heck do I know about sanity).

hey good advise never wheel alone the walk back for the friend would be to far. your jeep can handle that lil dirt road even if it was wet....the hail i think it has to be at least golfball size to really hurt anything. the tree well if you have your recovery gear can be moved off and out of the way, so where is this trail looks like alot of fun..

What do you all mean move the tree? Those trees were huge, its not a sapling. If a tree feel on my jeep, I would be dead. The tree I was parked beside while it hailed was at least 2.5-3 feet in diameter. There were tons of places to get stuck, they are just not in the pics. There were times when I had it in 4high giving it plenty of gas and i was barely moving. Also, many of those ruts were of nice size. Once they fill up with water, I have no clue what line to take to stay out of them. :?

I didnt think the hail would hurt anthing, but gosh does it make some awful noise!

The trail is by a place called livingston. Its about an hour from lexington Ky. Right off exit 59 on 75 you take a right off the ramp(coming from lexington) and its the first right about 100ft from the ramp. Hopefully I can get back there someday and figure out where it goes. It was getting kinda tight and I had to stop and break some branches hanging out in the road. Dont want any scratches on the paint.

Some of those pics look like they were taken in the Amazon...when it used to rain there.

Well at least you know one thing a tree that large would put you out of your misery quick...i was talking about the occasional large branch that usually gets knocked down in situations like that....Did i miss something you were in four high?? why not 4low? 4 low changes the torque settings and adjusts the idle, much better for powering out sticky situations....breaking branches...dont want to scrach......i gave that up on day three...lol dont think you would want to wheel with me....creek beds that bang the heck out of your A arms, tight trails that massage your jeep in all the right places...but have alot of fun...Took my bro in law who has two cherokees one with a 6in and one that just has boggers on it...he quit baggin on my kj...at the end of the day all he said was....lift it!

Unfortunately, I think we all know we're not supposed to wheel alone, but we probably will anyways occasionally. Cool pics and glad to see you made it back.

Bottom line is don't do anything you think you may not get out of if you are alone. Common sense right? I go out all the time with just me and the lil one (wife). If we get stuck i know where i get cell phone service

Jeepster,
the way you always comment about driving to fast in the rain on the street is more likely to get you killed !

Classic example of going alone...........the guy who went hiking without telling anyone anything and a boulder fell on his arm and he had to cut his arm off with a pocket knife.....yikes

do not go alone
