I sent a email to DC the other day asking if i would get reimbursed for the cost of me putting in aftermarket balljoints due to prior ball joint failure. this is what i got back.

Dear Michael:

Thank you for contacting the Chrysler Group Customer Assistance Center
regarding your Jeep Liberty.

If "recall repair work" was done on your vehicle before the recall
notification, simply send your original repair order and paid receipt,
after making a copy for your records, to the following address for
review and reimbursement consideration:

DAIMLERCHRYSLER
P.O. Box 4639
Oak Ridge, TN 37831

The fax number is 865-425-1592

You should also take your vehicle to your DaimlerChrysler dealer for a
free inspection for the recall repair. It is possible that the recall
may still need to be completed on the vehicle.

Thanks again for your email.

Sincerely,

Lashon

Senior Staff Representative
Chrysler Group Customer Assistance Center

That was gonna be my plan after I get back. Hopefully they don't try and pull nothing like, "well do you have the reciept when you brought it in for inspection and they said your balljoints were bad". Cause I just bought the balljoints about a month or so ago and have nto yet put them in. My stock joints are still good, i just wanted beefier joints and not have to worry about the issue anymore, ya know.

I hade to be the Devil's Advocate but I think that unless you can prove the original LBJs were bad (Work order, estimate, etc.) you may have a hard time getting paid. I hope not though.

See thats what i was thinking to begin with, but the recall is mandatory on all KJs so if their balljoints are cheaper than the moogs I will still fight to be reimbersed up to the cost of their new balljoints.

Well then maybe I'll have to ship mine to DC with my letter!

Mine were destroyed when removed though. The press almost pushed the ball out the other side.

No way they are going to pay for your Moogs. If you reread the email, I don't think that Moogs will qualify as "recall repair work".

i agree, if you had got them installed at a dealership, then DC might have reimbursed you for the labor, but i don't think they'll pay for your moogs. Good luck tho!!!!

If you reread the email they sent me, the "recall repair work" they refer to means any repair work that was done which had to do with the recall. That said anywork done to fix the problem the recall fixes now, prior to them announcing a recall. I think I will get some money out of this. Like I said before, if their balljoints are cheaper than my moogs i would be happy with just getting that cost reimbursed.

I bet you get your money. Back on the big firestone tire / ford debacle...I replaced my ranger's tires because they were simply worn out. When that recall hit a year later, I sent in the invoice stating I replaced them "out of fear for safety"...even though I bought a different brand tire....I got all my money back....I would submit it. Just attach a letter stating you replaced them with aftermarket parts at your regular mechanic out of fear for safety concerns...betcha get paid!!!!

I have a feeling he's right. When you say those words, "out of fear for safety", it sounds genuine and really plays to the heart of D/C reps who now can't deny that the LBJs ARE A BIG PROBLEM. It also sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen. Obviously the later tone is the one D/C will probably reimburse us on if we decide to go with MOOGs.

I'd bet money he will get his money back and may get new ball joints if he wants them as well.

Thanks for the info. I was wandering what to do about this. My Jeep came home from shop after getting Moog's installed the day before the recall was announced :? I am glad to have the better joints in though.
