Today has sucked...

I dropped my New Beetle TDI off at the dealer I bought it from in Bellingham because I was getting a diesel smell when I turned on the heater, and they were going to clean the intake since they didn't do it before I drove if off the lot... On my way home, my CRD stalled on the freeway, the CEL and oil light came on... we rolled over to the shoulder and checked the dipstick... there's oil in there (better be, I had it done at Jiffy Lube a couple weeks previous...). The Liberty started back up and we made our way over to Richard's drive-in for a tasty burger... 10 minutes later on the Aurora bridge, the Jeep stalled again... same CEL and oil light... got it running again and got the heck off the bridge...

We stopped at a parking lot in downtown Seattle and called DC roadside assistance. What's lovely is that they can have the Jeep delivered to the dealership, but can't get US from the dealership to home... WTF??

Finally we arranged a ride home with a friend and finally got here..

A couple weeks ago, Jiffy Lube screwed up my Liberty and overcharged me as well. I ended up taking it to the dealership and discovering that it had some hose knocked loose. The dealership fixed the hose, but now I wonder.... did they ever top off the oil?? My Liberty's been parked in favor of the TDI, which gets 40+ MPG, so I don't know if there was a problem with it. There certainly was no low oil indication until it friggin stalled... but there was fluid on the dipstick, so I'm a little perplexed...

Oh yeah... and this drunk bum was stumbling around the parking lot I stopped at in Seattle and was harassing people for money... and he fell onto my passenger side mirror... grr... no damage, thankfully... just a reminder why I don't cruise around downtime much anymore...

I need a beer... LOL

Boy that sounds like more fun in one day than any mere mortal oughta be allowed to have in a whole month. Sorry to hear your sad tale of woe and intrigue, VF.

Well, I am dying to know.........did you make it to Richard's for the burger?

Seriously, the oil light would come on when the motor stopped no matter what. All it does is measure pressure and that goes away when the motor gets shut down either on purpose or with the kill switch. Even if the light came on before you totally died you might have had the engine running so intermitantly before final stall that you might have lost oil pressure.

Sorry to hear of your problems...but that is why I tell everyone I know....NEVER TAKE YOUR CAR TO JIFFY LUBE! Anyway, it sounds like your oil light came on simply because the engine stalled. Let us know what the dealer comes up with.

NHTSA is what he meant to say. See the following link:

I had a stalling problem for quite a while & the oil pressure light accompanied each stall. It simply indicates low pressure due to engine not running (absent a normal shutdown via key). Shouldn't mean anything more unless it remains on upon restart.

I have never & would never use any oil change service. Too risky, to easy to do myself.

Recently, a friend of mine had his CR-V's oil & transfer case fluid changed at Jiffy Lube. They neglected to refill the transfer case. It siezed 60 miles later. Seems a clear case but Jiffy Lube fought him all the way nonetheless. He got a large settlement in the end (don't know how much but he was happy with it), but it took over a year & cost him a lot of time & aggravation.

Quick update... dealership called me back. They encountered an error code on my CRD that they've never encountered before...

"Group 2 Injector Circuit Supply"

They need to call DC and see what this error means because they don't know...

Anybody ever run into this one, or maybe have an idea what this might be about?

Nope. I came up with a couple that th dealer had not heard of before too when I threw a CEL. They were not on Oldnavy's posted list either. Do you know the CEL number?

I am still wondering about those Richard's burgers?

That's DICKS DRIVE-IN... Say it, you know you want to!! LOL

My buddy liked the burgers, but he's not a big fan of Dicks yet. I think after he's experienced Dicks in Seattle, he'll love 'em a whole lot more.

I think he liked Dicks' special sauce tho... my wife enjoyed it more...

Just remember, whenever you're in Seattle... you GOT to have a taste of Dicks... :-)r

Not exactly, but similiar and have seen this on big diesels.

Injector control/timing is entirely computer controlled and hauntingly similiar to Detroit Diesel Electronic Controls (DDEC) "Unit Injectors" used on large DDC engines since the late 80's. You have a circuit controling a small solenoid valve on each injector. The computer sends an open and close signal, controlling both injector timing and pulse width. If the computer senses a wiring problem (an open or a short) or sometimes a fuel pressure problem, it will usually not fire the effected injector(s) and throw a CEL. Depending on how the software is programed, it may even go into a reduced power mode or even shutdown. Possibility it's fuel related but my hunch is they will be chasing a wire problem (chaffing/bad connector/shorted injector??), maybe a bad ECM.

Now how did you get that to work this time. I was giving you the "Richard's" thing for two reasons. 1) You never told us if you made it there, and 2) the LOST auto censor killed it the first time you typed it. LOL! Check back to your original post!

Richard's in Spokane is good too. Great place to watch people!!!!! Also, no frozen, processed fries. They peal the spuds and cook the fries right there from scratch. :D :D :D

Hummmm......maybe it is the apostrophy in DICKS that does it! LOL

Another update...

The dealership performed the ball-joint recall work on my CRD, as well as perform a diagnostic for the error code (which was P2149, according to them).

Another thing they didn't tell me before... they ordered a Pressure Control Valve for my CRD from the last time it was in there. Made me think "Positive Crankcase Vent"... :)

They have no idea why the Jeep stalled on me tho.

And the oil leak... was my fill plug screwed up by... (big shock here...) JIFFY LUBE...

I'm still a little lost as to what the problem is long-term, but I hope it's resolved. Something tells me that's unlikely. More fun with DC pending, I suspect...
