I had never heard/noticed any major fuzz about gas prices rising until a little bit before the what ever war is going on in Iraq and the Rita hurricane. Just before the 2006 hurricane season they raised prices because they were expecting an “active” hurricane season. Bull I say. Then the thing with the BP pipeline, WTF? I totally agree about the elections. But not to mentions winter is on its way and they are going to prepare us all for the long winter months and the cost of oil prices and how much it’s going to cost to heat our homes. Where the kit to convert out Jeeps to E85? My ranting is done… for now.

<the following is a joke based on the above political posts - take it as such>

hallb4, if you weren't from such a "red" part of Washington (Tri-Cities ?), the they would be worried about the vote there. Same for Chicago & Mass. (solid blue - no swing there). So, they are obviously targeting swing states with gas prices...

<OK, joke over  If you took this seriously, or were offended - sorry, I just couldn't resist...>

No harm, no foul. Actually, check this out: http://www.gasbuddy.com/gb_gastemperaturemap.aspx. I live in Northwest corner of WA (5 mins from CAN border) and I was raised in South-Central WA and there is very little difference in average price even though (politically) they are very different.

I wish I was in one of those green states

Haha i was just going to say that, those Bums!! Isn't it funny though, they say they have nothing to do w/ the prices and then poof the elections come around and the prices start going down..It's such Bull$h-ah-poopoo

I'm never one to spoil a good conspiracy theory, but if you look at the historical price chart below, gas prices drop sharply from mid-September through December every year. Last year they dropped a full dollar from $3.08 to $2.08. The same drop this year would put the price below $2.

http://www.gasbuddy.com/gb_retail_price ... px?time=24

It has far more to do with a sharp drop in energy consumption (less vacation traveling and A/C usage) during the fall than politics. Prices will probably shoot up again when it gets cold in January.

Krazz1e, SLC prices tend to lag the national average by about 3 weeks. That's bad, now that prices are dropping, but it's good when they're rising.

Last night (15 Sep) the price of gas on the military installations (always within a cent of being the cheapest in town) was $2.75. As in Salt Lake City, we tend to follow about 3 weeks behind the national trends. Also, Colorado Springs tends to be $0.20 to $0.30 more expensive than the national average.
