I was running some errands this morning and had some cool comments on the Jeep. First, I had a guy asking about the gas mileage and how we liked it and how it compared to the Cherokee. Then I went to a car wash to support a friend of mine's church. It had some mud on it (if its not sparkly clean, then it will have mud all overm theres no in between). Anyway, they were asking how much fun it was offroad and then were checking out the tires and stuff while they washed it. I just thought it was all very cool, considering its a five year old vehicle with minimal modification.

Thats cool you supported the church! Makes you feel all warm inside when people talk to you about your jeep doesnt it! :D Put some black cragar rims and 30" tires on there and get that guy to ask you about the mpg again.

I dont wanna know what my mileage would be with 30" tires on there. As it is, I'm getting 16 mpg, becuase I've had to get it up to 5000 rpms to safely get on the freeways around here. Rush hour on Friday in Phoenix sucks! But is is very cool how many people treat it like a Jeep now and not another soccer mom vehicle.

Wow! I do not believe I get it over 3k rpms coming home from school. I know it doesnt get over 3500rpms, it may go over 3k when it shifts into 3rd when Im passing someone at 75mph. Thats with the bigger tires too. :)

Yeah I don't like it. I apologize after I get up to speed. It never redlines, but there has been a few times I started to wonder when the auto was gonna decide to shift. 3K seems to be almost normal accelerating in daily traffic for me (hence my mediocre gas mileage).

Funny you apologize to it. It wont hurt a thing to do that ever so often. Just as long as you dont floor it everytime you pull out or anything. Best to use SYN if you must hit High rpms alot too.

I think I'm gonna switch to SYN at the next oil change anyway. SInce its getting to be a higher mileage engine I think its a good idea. I definitely dont floor it everywhere I go. 3500 is my limit usually (unless impending doom deems otherwise)

If the tranny is automatic you cannot redline it. It is electronically controlled.

Oooh... yeah... definitely related to the gas mileage. I hardly ever hit 3k RPM in my 3.7L unless I wanted to have some fun or I'm merging on the freeway.

Mine just touches around 5500-5600rpms then up shifts. One time I was passing a guy and thought I put it into 2nd but it was 1st, thats when I found out that it will not let the tranny downshift if its going to hurt anything. It stayed in 2nd and didnt go into 1st even though I shifted it into 1st.

If you have never used syn I wouldn't start now. Syn is known to clean things out and on older vehicals that can be bad. If there is any build up on seals syn will clean it off and oil leaks may start.
