"tune up" advice

What would a dealer do for a "tune up"?
I changed all my fluids(except coolant/antifreeze), oil filter and cleaned my K&N.
At this point, should I just change my plugs and call it good? How do I know if I need new wires? Do they adjust timing anymore?
Sorry for so many ??? at once but this is the first time I am doing the maitenence on my vehicle instead of paying someone else. Quality Jeep time!

You won't need new ignition wires ever on this Jeep because there aren't any. Each spark plug has its own ignition coil mounted on top. Depending on the mileage, you may want to change the spark plugs, they don't cost much.

Go with a fresh set of OEM NGK's for plugs. Move the overflow tank out of the way by unbolting it from firewall and you can get to the rear passenger side plug easy. Timing is computer controlled and not adjustable.

This is funny. I emailed DC some months back, and asked them the exact same question: What exactly is a tune-up? This was their answer:

Could you describe the processes involved in a "tune-up" on a 6 cylinder

That's pretty much a non-answer answer. But at least they took the time to "review the matter" with me. I asked the dealer and they only wanted to reply to specifics: which vehicle, when will you bring it in, etc.

Theres not much to do really. Its not like the old days when you change the cap, rotary button, plugs, 6 different belts, and grease the ball joints(haha). Change plugs if you are over 30k, change all the oils, check belt, not much more I can think of.

my dealer told me the other day when i was getting the recall done, that i needed to change the fluid in the diffs, and transfer case. I don't know if thats part of a tune up or not. My lib has 30K miles on it. They also said it was gonna cost around $650, i laughed in their face !!

Diffs every 12k as by the manual, I think thats crazy if you dont tow or offroad. Every 30k sounds alittle more like it. Tcase every 30k along with the tranny. :wink:

Yea, dealers are known for screwing you, best to learn how to do it and do it yourself. :wink:

Not stealing the thread... yeah, had my Jeep in awhile back at the stealership for it's first "tune-up"; fluid/filter changes, tire rotation, ect. This was NOT suppose to include my diffs being done as I hadn`t hit the milage scheduled but they did them any way and charged me for it.

I know, I can fight un-authorized work being completed but the diff fluid change was part of some tune-up package by the stealership. It was something like $500 CDN. I told them that I didn`t ask that to be done and I `wasn`t going to pay, they said fine but then you have to pay for the remainder of the work completed. Get this though, they wanted to charge me for the remaining work individually, job by job, so the bill was going to be higher then this "package deal". What burned me even more was when I called the service manager at my old dealership before I moved and he qouted me $150 for the diffs and a flat $49 plus tax for the tune-up :shock:

. Would have gone to them but I live 900 miles away

. Would have persued further but I didn`t have the time to fight with them.

LOL, yeah Hijack....when I got ours done....he told me the 60k service was coming up and "get ready! it's about $2,000!" I was like OK, I'll start saving!!! ROTFL

TWIST-PULL! Rotate counter clockwise to detent and pull out....shake it or blow it out with carb cleaner...if it rattles, it's still good, put it back in

Yeah - twist and pull. but be careful, it's plastic.

I went to check mine and i snapped it in half haha. My local NAPA store sold me the PCV valve for 6-7 dollars.
