A couple of days ago, i found out just how good the breaks on a liberty really are... and i must say, i was very impressed. a friend was Riding next to me on the Strand on his 03 GSXR 1000 when the return cable on his bike snapped causing the bike to go instantly to Full Throttle in third gear without him paying attention. he reached for the clutch but couldn't grab it fast enough so he had to bail. His bike launched and when he hit the ground he bounced in front of me. By this time i had already started breaking and from about 68 mph, i actually managed to stop before he did. My pirelli scorpions are getting a little low on tread, and it didn't leave a single black mark, so i'm guessing that the ABS did its job. MY friend sustained minor injuries in the form of road rash, and his bike was in two pieces about 375ft from where it first struck the ground. All in all i would say that he was very lucky. He didn't get run over, and the coronado police didn't even shoot him. He rolled out of sere school, but other than that there is no punishment.

Glad your friend is ok..... glad the brakes worked good too.
I almost hit a convertible mercedes a couple days ago.
He had an orange left turn signal on the traffic light, he decided to go for it because it just chaged from green or orange, & I decided, why not I can make it.
Then he decided - wait! it is orange maybe i better stop so he hits the brakes and I'm already going 40 mph to make it before it goes red. So I had to hit the brakes.
I had to give him the finger & a good horn on his ears - and he got upset....
Anyway..... my brakes saved the front of the KJ going half way into this convertible mercedes.

The stock brakes on the Libby actually really suck. It must have been the good grip your tires had that prevented you from skidding. If you upgrade the pads and rotors, you'll stop sooner and with more power. :D

I am glad you buddy is okay.

I have to agree StreetKJ though...the KJ brakes are mediocre at best...with a lift and the bigger meats...it just gets worse. I guess that is why I just drive so much slower nowadays.

A lift doesnt change the brakes at all. My brakes are great even with the heavy cragars and 30" generals. I went over a hill the other day doing 75mph and traffic was stopped, they did just fine.

I just drive a few other vehicles and the difference in stopping distances is very wide. I also compared my stopping ability before and after lift on my country road and there was noticeable difference on my KJ. I am not saying the KJs brakes are unacceptable, they just aren't that great either.

Try stopping quick with 32's under your Libby, way big difference from stock.
