$1.029/gallon more than unleaded

Can you say Greed?

There's some diesel in my home area for $2.59 now.

They keep the prices up for Diesel blaming it on heating oil...doing it for years.

Anybody know where to find diesel futures?

You can find gasoline, oil and heating oil futures here on bloomberg.

http://www.bloomberg.com/energy

Heating Oil is within 20 cents of gasoline.

Marlon,

Heating Oil futures should be the same as diesel. Glad to hear your mileage is improving.

Having been off my feet for a few days I was suprised to see how quickly the pump price of diesel is finally droping in my town. A regular fuel stop of mine was at $3.59 Friday and is at $3.27 today.

It's improving. Not at the rate I'd like but it is getting slightly better. I haven't noticed much lately though. I'm at 4500 miles now.

In other news

I just PERSONALLY saw some diesel for $2.69... :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

However less than a mile down the road, they still had $3.05 posted. I was sure to put that on detroitgasprices.com. Watch it drop tomorrow.

detroitgasprices.com is showing a low of $2.47 around here.

It is my understanding that Gas Stations can not change the price until they take a delivery.......

They take small deliveries all the time as the price goes UP

and if they can are slow to take deliveries when the price is going DOWN...

If that is true then you live in the only place that is in effect.

Yeah. Gas stations change the prices in anticipation of the cost of their NEXT delivery.

The cost to fill up the underground tanks is huge as well... think the tens of thousands.

I regularly talk to owners of a few stations and more often to the employees. When asked why their diesel prices are so high the employee says "Oh, we just set are prices to whatever the Sunoco down the streets are." Asked the owner how they set their prices at another station....."Ours will always be 1 cent cheaper than exxon across the street, no matter what."

Most places set the prices as high as they can set them and still keep their customers. There are very few that I have talked to that actually maintain a set percentage of profit, they are almost always cheaper than the profit hungry ones, not always but usually. I go to them. Every place has their own policy and it can even vary between say two marathons it the same town.

Well, good news and bad news with fuel prices going back down.

Most people in this country will immediately go back to their old habits, and truck/SUV sales will rebound. Also, sales of the new econoboxes like the Toyota Yaris, hybrids, and small diesels will slump off. Lost count of how many times we've been thru this cycle since '73.

If you're looking to buy something along the line of a VW TDI or a used CRD, fuel prices going down will be a good thing. If fuel prices go down and stay down for a few months, pretty soon those dealership premium prices will start disappearing when they can't move them off the lot.

OTOH, if you're trying to sell or trade in one of the same vehicles, you're going to get screwed, as the demand goes down so does the money you can get out of it.

That settles it. When I retire the second time (from Freightliner), I'm moving to Missouri.

Eh, we pay for our cheap fuel with our roads, schools, crime, you-name-it... Its all about compromises. I wouldn't mind paying a bit more for the state to get their sh*t together.

Hey we would have the good roads if the state would spend the money properly. But then that would require an honest politican, but for some reason we seem to think we should elect on party membership.

darn I sure can ramble.

PS: Chris you better show up here Sat 14 Oct for the GTG. 8)

Here in NC we ARE paying a bit more, like in the top 5 for the highest state fuel taxes in the nation, and the state STILL can't get their s##t together, same problems you listed above. Oldnavy hit it on the head, crooked political system and voting by party membership.

For that matter, I don't subscribe to conspiracy theories, but I wouldn't be surprised to see fuel prices climb back up not too long after the elections.

So I have the CRD for a week while the folks are in Maui. It was cheaper for them to leave it with me than parking it at Seatac Airport, and I love driving it.

But last night, I filled it up at a Shell station in Renton (near the IKEA) for $2.79 per gallon. That's nearly a 50 percent decrease in prices overnight! Diesel is clocking in at about the same prices as 89 octane gasoline in the Seattle area now. Not like 50 cents more than premium just a few days ago! This is great!

We are down to $2.51 for diesel and $2.29 for petrol...10% less for petrol but I am getting over 30% better mileage with diesel, so I am still ahead. They had E85 for $1.99
