Anyone used anything besides the Mopar cross bars for the roof rack?

I'll need to get some cross bars for the occasional trip to Home Depot and the like. The cargo capacity of the KJ is just not enough for larger items. Thought about a trailer, but then there is another thing in the way around here. (already have a a 56 Chevy and 65 International under construction plus the extra chassis for the 56).

Since the Renegade is my wife's vehicle ( she does let me drive it from time to time :D ). I'll need something that doesn't look like I made it up at midnight in the garage from whatever was laying around.

$160 seems like alot for the Mopar cross bars and I don't like the look of them hanging off the side rails. I could always hide that with a roof basket! (maybe I'm onto something here 8) ) Sounds like the usual project wihich grows way beyond the usual intent.

What have you used that supports 150 lbs and doen't look out of place?

Thanks in advance :)

Each of my mopar rails say 100lbs max. Im not to sure if that means both together, or each can hold 100lbs making it 200lbs.

I haven't gotten around to it yet but I'm planning on using a couple of the old cross-bars/supports from the tonneau cover of my old Dakota. It was one of the old style ones (you know the covered wagon look) so they're arched which gives them some added strength. I'm 155lbs and can stand on one of them without flattening it all the way out. With that said, I still wouldn't go putting too much weight on them, but I'm going to give it a shot. Just an idea for ya.

Thule makes the foot pack #450 for the 05-06 Renegades. With the 50" crossbars, its rated for 165lbs overall.

The Thule approach may be the way to go.

I really had hoped the Xterra cross bar was long enough to cut down and use, but alas the X cross bar is too short...
