I was just wondering if there is a way to swap the 4spd automatic transmission with a 5spd manual from another 02 liberty (or whatever years would work for that matter). Is this even possible?

I thought about doing that once to a mustang but you have to think about cost of parts vs buying another one with it already. You have all the little things that add up

The model number of the PCM's of the auto and manual are different. I don't think it can simply be flashed. You would need to buy an additional PCM from someone like Autocraft. You will need to buy the transmission, and a bunch of other parts. It's going to be a lot of work and it's going to be expensive. I would be tempted to trade it in on a new one with a manual if that is what you really want or need.

If you just aren't satisfied with the 45rfe, you can call up APS Precision and get an upgraded torque converter and a shift kit. It will put as much power to the ground as the manual. It also shifts much faster and locks up much better. You will also want B&G Chrysler to flash your PCM. You're looking at around $460 + core for the converter. The performance shift kit runs a little over $100. The PCM flash runs around $450. You end up with a little over $1000 in parts and programming. Depending on your mechanical abilities, you could have to spend another $500 in labor for a good mechanic that you can trust to do transmission work. It's an impressive improvement in performance. Makes the KJ much more fun to drive.
