My CRD (brand new) stalls when I brake hard or moderately hard. It also stalls going down steep hills. It will restart right away when flat, but will not restart on a hill when facing down (I have to roll to the bottom to re-start). It stalls in neutral or in gear - makes no difference.

I took it to the dealer for warranty work, and they plan on replacing the powertrain control module. This part has been back ordered for two months, so the truck is sitting in the garage. I have had a lot of time to think about this problem. Given the physical causes of the problem, replacing the computer doesn't make sense to me. Has anyone ever heard of this problem?

Am I the only one waiting two months for parts?

OK, well nobody answered....so I can give you a clue:

The dealer finally called me and said the new PCM arrived early (after six weeks, not the promised nine). It only took one or two nasty letters. They installed it and called me to pick up the truck. I made them go road test the truck again, and lo and behold, hit the brakes and it still stalls, just like it did six weeks ago. Back to the drawing board. She will call me tomorrow and tell me what they find.

At least we know it wasn't the PCM.

Cheers.

Check and see if possibly a pinched or rubbing wiring harness, on top right of engine behind the fuel filter bracket

Did they check for a loose ground wire?

Could be fuel related but I would think pointing upwards would be when the problem occured. Make sure the "banjo" fittings on the fuel filter are tight.

Kind of sounds like your lock-up clutch is not releasing when it should. If you are coming to a quick stop and it kind of starts to feel like the engine is lugging down and keeps pushing you, then it could be that the lock-up clutch in the TC is still applied. Maybe a bad sol, stuck or sticky valave??

Great news today. The Jeep is fixed. Once they replaced the PCM, it gave them the codes necessary to locate a frayed wire that was shorting out - apparently there is a sharp edge that rubs against the wiring. Some of you got the problem spot on.

Thanks for the help.

The clue was that yours was a 2006 like mine. Where was the wire rubbing at?.

I am not sure, but it was somewhere under the hood. My dealer keeps the mechanics in back and the service reps up front, but she said something on the phone about the wiring for the 1st injector circuit, if that means anything.
