I haven't cracked open the air box on my CRD yet, but does anyone know if there is foam insulation inside of our factory air box? I know a trick on other turbo gassers was to remove that foam insulation and you would get more turbo sound.

No foam or anything else inside or outside.

I would, but what would the implications be for warranty? I only have 2900 miles on mine and don't want to have any warranty troubles should I need to take it in.

it is not supposed to void the warranty but i would ask your jeep dealership before you do it.

Drill the side of the airbox closest to the fender like I did. IT sounds better & definately feels like its pulling a bit harder once your upto speed, say 50+ Mph.

Your warranty cannot be voided by DCX just for having a CAI unless they can prove that the reason for your troubles are directly related to the CAI itself.

Unrelated to the CAI discussion but for those of you wanting the turbo to spool faster, try a performance muffler.

I just drove my CRD home after getting my AeroTurbine 2525 installed and replacing the stupid CRD air cleaner box with a V6 model and my boost gauge shows significantly more response. It practically flutters!

And the sound, not much more in the turbo department, but it sure sounds beefier (with some clatter up front to round it out).

Maybe one of those Napoleon Dynamite keychain sound-effect things wired to the throttle... Nothing better than an amplified "SWEET!!" when you stomp it!

If it were under $200 I would think about it, but it's a little too pricey IMO.

good luck man because i already tried making one and just the parts, with a k&n air filter was over $100, plus adding machine time hours and prototyping, you are going to end up paying more than if you were going to buy one. trust me if i had the money i would buy one.

Just remember that After Market Air Filters like the K&N were designed to stop "Beer Cans and Chicken Bones" and let everything else through. Racing Engines are rebuilt after 2 or 3 races.

Why is everyone so misinformed? This is simply not true. Check out the K&N filtration facts at the following site and take a look at the independant lab test results. Independant lab test resulst show them to be 99.1% efficient (cone filter) and 99.05% for the factory drop-in.

I have used K&N filters in gasoline vehicles for years...both factory drop-in replacements and cone filters. They may allow a little more dirth through, but it isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Anyone running a chip or other performance mods is not going to be changing their oil at the factory interval anyway because they are running out of factory spec. I change my oil every 5,000 miles. If they allowed so much dirt through, then explain why my gassers oil would look brand new for over 2,500 miles.

People do run into problems when they don't clean them properly and/or over-oil them.

I should also add that I am in no way affiliated with K&N.

Slightly less restriction for slightly less filtration isn't worth it to me since longevity is a primary concern of mine. Then, as I understand it, intake restriction of that degree is negligible for a turbocharged diesel. However, I have thought about increasing the filter area by getting an aftermarket system & then running one of those apparently restrictive but superbly filtering amsoil nanofiber filters...
